Look: Nice dark coloring, but the head dissipates very quickly.
Smell: I get a light dark fruit with an equally strong alcohol smell and a bit of sweetness mixed in.
Taste: The taste follows the smell with some plum in there, nothing special. A dry finish with lingering alcohol.
Feel: Light mouth feel and feels a bit thin, especially for a 7% abv.

Overall: A decent beer to tick if you want to try some Japanese beer, but at $4.50 I don't think I'll get this again.

Black with chocolate brown highlights in the light. Aroma is dry chocolate, caramel, sweet cherries, and espresso. Taste is more chocolate, cherries, maybe a little plum?, caramel, and coffee. Full-bodied. Sweet up front, classic dry finish.

Pours a dark brown, bit short of black. Head is beige, thin some lace. OK.

Sweet nose. Brownie, banana, cinnamon. Some mild roast. Banana bread. Maple. Sweet but OK.

Taste is roastier. Bitter with espresso, some leather, pepper, aniseed. Bit astringent on back but light overall. Pretty standard stout but good flavours.

Thin front, decent body on back. Bit dry.

Nice stout.

This was tasted in 2013 so was probably too old, given it is listed as 'retired'.

Light brown, more like a dark ale than a stout.

Smells of coffee and licorice. A slight smokiness which is interesting.

Very sweet on the palate and watery. Not enjoyable, but this could be due to age.

Review from 3/2010 notes. Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours black with a moderately fast dissipating tan head and light lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, dry fruit. Light stout flavors of toasted malt and dark fruit up front with a slightly sour middle, but finishing with toffee and dark malts. Balanced with a very pleasant finish. Light to medium mouthfeel. Not too bad for a 5% stout, but pricey.

Ingredients: malts, hops. alc. 5, unpasteurized.
330ml dark bottle
Crafted on December 10, 2002
Consumed February 9, 2003

Black with rocky tan rapidly evaporating head. Light carbonation, light aroma of toffee, lightly sweet, raison flavor. Medium body, with light to no bitterness. Surprisingly complex for a beer with such delicate flavors. Long lasting with a slightly burnt chocolate finish. All in all a decent beer, but a lighter than I like my stouts.
