Nice central location in Ann Arbor, the entire Hopcat service standard, but the local breweries are a constraint on the quality of what can be found to drink.

Michigan’s premier beer bar chain. Bustling spot in a central location in downtown Ann Arbor. A bit obnoxious on the decor, but expected for a craft beer spot on a college campus. Great selection- guaranteed to have something for every beer drinker. Lots of locals and a lot of specialty stuff as well- hopcat exclusives and collaboration beers, rare stuff in bottles and on tap. Food is a bit over the top. Sexied-up bar food on the heavy-greasy-meaty-cheesy side. Just reading the menu will fill you up with enough carbs that you won’t be able to drink as many beers as you want. Service isn’t bad, but a bit care-free. Prices fair, but on the steep side for the pours you get. All things considered, it’s a must stop for the serious beer enthusiast.

It's HopCat. It's a very large place with lots of seating options, pretty good service, and somewhere around 100 taps that they're able to keep rotating with the kind of business they do. The main draw here is that you can get exceptional food as well as exceptional beer in a rare combination. This is a must-stop in Ann Arbor, though not as "local" as Ashley's.

Went there a couple times during a recent holiday trip back to old stomping grounds, went to grad school at UM. Loved both the food and beer selection. Had the family and everyone had a good time. I even enjoyed their vegetarian "kitchen sink" dish!

Visited on a Saturday at 6, plenty of seats to be had. The space isn't nearly as large or bright as the flagship location in Grand Rapids, but it is decently sized, with a large round bar dominating the center of the space. They have 96 handles with a solid variety of styles and brewers. Didn't get a full meal, but did get an order loaded crack fries, which are a must for Hopcat.

Mrs. LP and I found ourselves at HopCat on two occasions when we came up back in May to scope out housing and daycare for our impending move to the area.

It was my first experience with any of the HopCat locations, and we made a point to come back a second time before we left because I fell in love with the massive and diverse tap list and wanted to try the food (the first time, we came for drinks only). We were also pretty happy with the friendly banter and attentive nature of the staff on the first visit, although I should mention that it was 2:30pm on a Wednesday, so the place was fairly chill.

The second visit was slightly less impressive from a service standpoint, with our server being effective, but not particularly engaging. However, he was professional and didn't make any mistakes, so really no complaints here. It was also lunchtime, and it became quite clear that it was a popular lunch stop for students, people out and about downtown Ann Arbor, and even professionals working nearby.

I actually enjoyed the vibe, with lots of eclectic artwork adorning the walls and big fat leather chair-style barstools around the 360-degree bar. However, it's so new that it hasn't had time to earn any character--everything was fresh and shiny. Perhaps with some time, it will earn some of that cozy "worn" look to it.

The food was quite good based on my limited experience. Good enough to warrant a few return trips to sample some more items. But as noted in the opening of this review, the tap list was the main draw. Not only do they have a huge one, with a lot of variance in styles and options, but they have a section called the Local 30 (or something similar) that has only local breweries. Especially useful for an out-of-towner, but I see myself ordering from that list frequently as I eat/drink there more often.

All in all, this was one of my first experiences with the Ann Arbor beer scene, and while I know the fact that it is new makes it hard to be a representative sample, it does seem like it will fit in quite well.

Been to both the GR and EL locations and thought that this would be a similar experience. Other than the wide selection of taps and the great food the atmosphere and service leaves much to be desired. This particular location has no real character and reminds me more of a chain restaurant. Think Chili's or Applebee's decor. Unfortunately I enjoy their food and wide beer selection but if I lived closer I would definitely return to the East Lansing location.
