I'm no fan of adjunct lagers (which is pretty much what this is), but it's not terrible and in fact is fairly innocuous and benign on a warm day in Santiago.
On draft at a local burger place (IT sandwich bar), it pours a solid gold color with pretty decent head retention and lacing. On the nose, I'm getting light sweet malt, corn and a hint of burnt toast. Flavor profile is more of the same, though the corn and sweet malt tend to dominate. It's a bit watery on the finish, which is no surprise and isn't really bothersome (my expectations weren't high). Mouthfeel is fairly light and innocuous, but the finish is fairly long and clean. Drinkability is good, and perfect for the cuisine available at IT.
Nothing special here, but it's tolerable. Hopefully though, this isn't a beer I'll feel the need to order again.

Golden color with a very thin head with no retention.
Very light aroma of sweet malt and cereals.
Initial refreshing flavor with notes of corn, pale malt, some oxidation and faint floral hops. Mild booze given the light body. Dry aftertaste.
Light to watery body with good carbonation.
Thirst quencher Adjunct Lager. Drink it only cold.

Royal Guard (5%) is generally available in 6x350cc cans which can be purchased for around 3300 Chilean pesos, which is around 5.63 US dollars/3.39 British Pounds. There is nothing special about this beer but it does have its own unique soft and creamy flavour that I haven't come across before. It has a velvety/silky aftertaste which is quite unusual. Royal Guard is definitely not a great beer but it's the better of the three main CCU Chilean beers, the others being Cristal and Escudo. A slightly better alternative is the new Royal Guard Black Label beer which was recently launched here in Chile. The Black Label version has a bit more flavour, is sold only in bottles and has an increased alcohol percentage of 6%. Generally Royal Guard is ok purely as a thirst quencher, but don't go looking for any complex flavours as you'll be dissappointed. If you are looking for good quality flavoursome Chilean beers then I recommend that you try the Kunstmann, Quimera, Kross, Mestra or Rothhammer brands. Here in Santiago you can also find an adjunct Bolivian beer called Paceña and a Peruvian beer called Cusqueña, both of which are not great but I think they are fairly good standard lagers; Cusqueña being my preferred choice.

This is the Chilean equivalent of natural light. Only available in cans and 40 oz bottles (no they don't use ounces there, but hell if I remember the cc's). A pretty bad pale lager that is cheap as all get out, but not even a favorite of the non-gringo non-beergeek crowd. Drank in a nightclub because there was nothing else to quench mine thirst.
