The Happy Monk is a charming, comfortable place out on the North Loop 1604 E. It's really close to the Brick House Tavern + Tap, and down the road there's a Mellow Mushroom, and a bit further out, Freetail Brewing.

There's a nice outdoor area (that's partially walled in to keep you "distanced" from the parking lot), and inside it has a barn-like interior with a dark grey stained concrete floor, dark woods, and exposed brick. During the day you could certainly bring your kids here, but after 7 pm it's 21+ only (which is probably best for everyone involved).

The service is excellent in my opinion, and they really go to an effort to tell you about the beers (which I of course don't need, but it's charming).

In the kitchen they do a lot of "farm to table", and they work with quite a few "local" providers. As might be expected, the quality of the food and its preparation is quite good. It's what you might call "gastropub" fare with items like duck tacos, mules frites, fish & chips, and gourmet burgers. Prices range from $7-12 for appetizers or "shared plates", and $14-23 for entrees or "staples".

At the long, polished-looking bar they're pouring 46 beers that cover quite a few styles. There are a lot of Texas beers, but there's also a fair amount of mid-west and California beers too. 24 cans and 25 bottles round things out and cover the Trappist side of things.

In the end you might not be wowed by the beers, but there's certainly enough that you'll find a few you'll enjoy; and the food and atmosphere are really quite nice. Worth a visit!

This place has a great selection of beers, service is above and beyond. The manager let me and my little boy stay past there 3pm limit for kids so we could have a late lunch with no problem. The food could have a little better selection but what they have is outstanding. Try the Korean Wings!!
Atmosphere is very upscale and they have a nice stage outside and eating areas inside and out. Best place in SA to eat and get beer in my opinion!

Visited The Hoppy Monk last weekend. Great tap list with a focus on craft breweries and also craft spirits.

Stellar food options. I only had the Korean Fried Chicken and they were excellent.

Service was very good considering how busy it was.

Great vibe with huge patio and what's even better...dogs allowed.

Stopped by one rainy Sunday night. Kevin the bartender was awesome. I had a burger with an egg on it, which is not cutting edge, but is still a rather welcome addition to a bar menu. The burger was great!

I loved the out door area, as well as the architecture. I look forward to another trip when there isn't a torrential downpour to feel the real vibe.

I visited the El Paso location, which is a bit more intimate, but both locations are tops in my book!
