On tap at a World of Beer in Charlottesville, VA, pours dark haze brown with three-finger khaki head. Aromas of caramel and indistinct spice. Taste is malt forward with toffee and finishing with tartness. Not really the fulsome body I'd expect in a doppelbock.

A: A ruby medium brown color with a tan head.
S: Hints of chocolate and rye bread with notes of caramel and ginger.
T: Big malt up front, with a little touch of tartness. Some earthy bitterness in there as well. That tartness is certainly out of place.
M: Medium in body with fairly aggressive carbonation.
O: Overall not horribly bad, but something definitely is a touch off on this one. Not so funky that it screams infection, but perhaps just flawed or on it's way there. Every beer I've had from this brewery has either had harsh bitterness, or something funky in the finish. This brewery needs to get it's shit together or it won't survive.

Golden brown in color, nice head and malty aroma. Flavor is good and according to style guidelines, it is pretty much on. Lots of malt and a light hop backbone...
