St. Nick's is located in the quaint town of Du Quoin, IL that was in its full Christmas splendor.....Hallmarkesk! The place was in an old building with plenty of exposed brick and hanging bicycles. There was a small bar but plenty of table seating. The beer was above average....but the food fell a bit short. Kelcey, our server, was really cool and helpful. There were 12 beers to pick from.....and a full bar if that is your jam. The food was so-so....I was expecting more....I had the burger and while it was good enough to finish....I probably wouldn't select it again if I go back. Glad I had a chance to visit this brewery.

Unique old building, the brewery sign incorporated a cool bicycle-riding skeleton. Looked like it was once an old storehouse along the railroad line. On a weekend night, it looked to be hopping from the outside. Inside, there was a second entrance to the left, and a large table of woo girls blocking the area by the host stand into the space. Towards the back was an empty bar, with bright lights turned up all the way. At last call that makes sense, but it was only 8pm. Invest in a dimmer switch, guys. The vibe was kind of boring, and could use more decor besides basic brick walls and brewery swag for sale.

Service was a little spotty despite being the only people at the bar. I got a sampler first thing from someone that promptly disappeared, then another bartender appeared and just hung out silently for a good 15 minutes. I asked how things were going to break the ice, and we got decent service after that. Kind of weird, but I chalk it up to being tourists in this tiny town that probably doesn't get very many.

Beer was surprisingly pretty good, nice Mosaic APA, Peloton APA, and Barleywine. I'd drink more of those anytime.

Worth a stop if you're making Scratch a nearby destination, also in the surrounding area are White Rooster in Sparta, Big Muddy in Murphysboro, and Route 51 Brewery in Elkville.

Enjoy the vibe. Its an old, brick building remodeled on the inside with a new bar, nice tables and TV setup. Smaller in size but cozy and plenty of seating at 6pm on a Saturday night. Good food and service. Simple menu. Had the spicy BBQ burger which was very tasty. Spicy fries had way too much seasoning salt. Reasonable prices and they offer flights $2/beer. Overall, a very positive experience and I would gladly go back.

Definitely worth the stop, great beers. The brewer loves to talk beer.
