Bringing a little smack talk to the Session IPA game, Chandeleur Island sets out to quench the thirst of hop heads throughout the northern Gulf Coast region.
Lil' Smack IPA backs up its talk with a hoppy flavor that first pours pale straw and with a slight haze. Racy with bubbles, the light and frothy cap that forms starts to tease the nose with citrus, tropical fruit and herbal contributions. With a mild mannered sweetness of wafer, faint honey and a slight savory tasted character, the early malt impressions are crisp and quick.
With the carbonation lifting the malt sweetness from the middle palate, the hops wake up to share pink grapefruit, orange peel and dried pineapple. With a quick shift from anything fruity and floral to a late taste of more bitterness the hops continue to share fresh grassiness, light pine and botanical herbs in a quick and concise taste.
Light, crisp and refreshing, the beer celebrates a high rate of drinkability, dryness and crispness but at the cost of more flavor. Its brings most of what hop lovers want in IPA, but in a smaller flavor package.

Currently #41 on the top Mississippi Beers list.
CAN: 12 fl oz. A sixer ran me less than $9 at a beer store in New Orleans (plus tax). Pull-tab. White and green label.
"India Pale Ale."
Citrusy tropical fruits are the emphasis here...tangerine, grapefruit, mango. Finishes bitter and rindy with a scraping grapefruit dryness and pith. Pale malts lend some sweetness but not enough to bring it neatly into balance. It's a bit unpleasant and aggressive as a result of its imbalance...too bitter.
Not a very enjoyable IPA nor is it one I'd buy again.

Look - standard copper color with slight head
Smell - lots of tropical fruit
Taste - not the same as the smell. Slight bitter pine but with a little tropical fruit
Feel - medium body and carb
Overall - pretty good, could use more fruity hop taste
