2011 February seasonal.

This beer appears a clear dark cola hue, with one finger of wispy off-white head, which leaves some sparse random lace as it fades away. It smells of nutty malt, and dry, bitter coffee. The taste is mild espresso, sweet nutty malt, with a dash of bittersweet chocolate, and some herbal hops. The carbonation is moderate, the body medium weight, a bit sugary, and generally smooth. It finishes off-dry, some bitter coffee reappearing.

After having had Alley Kat's similar offering last week, this one comes off much more approachable, the espresso bitterness tempered, but still evident, with the base porter perfectly perceptible underneath.

This was the seasonal on my visit tonight.

Dark brown in colour with a thin ring of ivory head. Light passes through all but the thickest parts of the beer.

Aroma of slightly chocolatey coffee. Fairly light in the aroma but pleasant.

Thin chocolatey malt is first to the tongue with the coffee kicking in next and holding out to the ending. Finishes a little bit astringent. The right amount of coffee flavour to make a good coffee beer, but lot enough porter flavour for a good porter.

Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is just ok.

"Just OK" is a fairly apt description of this beer. Like the brewer took a very standard, safe porter recipe and added coffee to the brew.
