Style: American Amber / Red Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.66%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Each Halloween we release this special concoction to celebrate one of our favorite holidays. Deep blood-red in color, an intense aroma of pine and citrus from an abundance of American hops balances the sweetness and rich, bready flavors of this beer's caramel malts. The result is a fiendishly smooth brew that will make your taste buds scream with delight.

This beer pairs excellently with toffee, caramel apples, or your favorite horror flick.

On tap at Stone Bistro

*Notes from 10/14/11
Served in a tulip glass

A: Evil Dead Red arrived an eerie looking ruby red color with rich mahogany tones. Amazing clarity with great carb present. Two fingers thick of beige foam cap had nice retention and left some droopy lace with each sip. Quite the specimen. A very sexy looking brew indeed.

S: Smells of dried fruits with some deep caramel toffee notes. Nutty and kind of like chocolate covered raisins.

T: Deep rich caramelized malt and toffee notes are present but not exactly forward here. Real nice citrus fruit and pine hop flavors meld with those nutty chocolate notes. Hops are resinous and linger but not crazy bitter on the palate. Some alcohol flavs that give a slight warming sensation. Chocolate covered dried fruits. This is really just such great balance at hand. A fantastic brew.

M: Amazingly light and creamy texture that just floats across the palate. Its fluffy. Mouthfeel is amazing on this one. Great carbonation with a slight crisp finish to it.

D: Superb balance allows for great drinkability and a lighter body but with some alcohol strength there at 6.66%. Not lacking in flavors at all.

A fantastic brew from AleSmith and probably the best Strong Amber I have experienced yet.

Bomber poured into Stella Artois chalice

A: Pours a deep ruby redish brown with a creamy light brown head that laces beautifully.

S: Citrus and tropical fruit hops backed with roasted malt.

T: Nice citrus and tropical fruit hop hit with a little pineapple mango and candied orange, some floral hop notes and caramel malt sweetness, and a coffee hit and bitterness on the finish.

M: Medium to heavy body, almost creamy, with moderate carbonation.

O: Wasn't expecting coffee notes but it is a nice surprise. Gotta love this one. And get at least a chuckle out of the abv%.

On draft at Newport Pizza in Ocean Beach. $6 - poured into a standard pint glass.

Pours a slightly hazed mahogany hue with a decent off-white head that dissipates within a few sips. Nice lacing. Smell is sweet and malty, a lot of carmel and fresh cut grain, mild hop aroma takes over at the end which was a pleasant surprise. Taste follows suit - lightly toasted grain, carmel sweetness with a nice dose of hoppy bitterness on the back end to keep this from being an overly sweet malt bomb. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, lightly carbonated with lingering bitterness from the hops.

Side note...amazing hop burps for a red ale.

Undated bottle into pint glass. Pours a hazy amber-brown with a persistent light tan head. Initial impression is citrus rind, dank earth, pine, and dark fruits, balanced somewhat by bready and caramel malts. Mouthfeel is medium, as is carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden. (Interesting that they claim 6.66% - clever.) Finish is tart, but with enough lingering hops to remind you that you're drinking a hopped amber ale. Very flavorful, but not one of my favorites - in my opinion, there is almost too much going on flavor-wise. The hops and malts are in competition, rather than complementing one another.

Poured a beautiful red amber color in a pint glass with a 1 finger head.

Light grapefruit, citrus, and a hint of vanilla wafted from the head.

The mouth feel is moderate which I like in this style. Sometimes American Ambers/Red Ales can be too carbonated.

The taste is wonderful- this beer tastes like a DIPA, even though the color is different: intensely hoppy, grapefruit, some toffee, vanilla, and malty.

The finish is also similar to a DIPA- some hoppy bitterness.

Excellent beer, and easy to drink. I will buy this again-soon.

2005 on draft at the Stuffed Sandwich

A: Sort of a murky, burgundy color. Very creamy, frappacino head.

S: Red fruits, bubble gum, raspberry and sweet malts.

T: Begins extremely fruity; fermented strawberries, boysenberries and maple. Slightly citrus flavors along the sides of the tongue. Their is a smooth yet even bitterness that occurs through out the process. Finishes with a health peat smokiness.

M: Medium body with just a touch of fuzz in the mouthfeel.

D: Damn fine. Really glad I had a chance to drink this. Its a hard one to track down.
