Excessive roastiness in the coffee blew this one for me - I thought it could have been that it was a 2017 bottle past its prime but after reading a couple other reviews, and based on perfect cellar conditions, it's the roastiness. It just overshadows the vanilla and dominates. Not for me.

Pours black with a dense finger of creme-colored foam. Head retention is good. Aroma is roasty, toasty, nutty and earthy malts establishing a dark and firm stout base, with roasty coffee, light vanilla bean and some green bell pepper over the top. Lightly bitter, heavy roasty qualities dominate the nose. Flavor profile is roasty, toasty, nutty, earthy and caramely malts. Roasty coffee and vanilla bean fold in well, offering more roasty and bitterness and sweetness, respectively. Mouth feel is thick with a moderate effervescence that echos on the tongue, getting slightly more and more faint before landing at its smooth, creamy finish. Overall, robust with large coffee and vanilla bean notes, it hits both what the label suggests and Speedway's reputation.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of liquid fudge with some floral coffee notes with some residual sugar notes. Taste is also a mix of floral coffee notes with some fudge notes, chocolate and some residual sugar notes. Body is full with nice creamy notes and good carbonation with no real apparent alcohol notes. Superb imperial stout which is probably trending to party stout territory but keeping balance and drinkability.

Fantastic beer sampled on tap from a local store. Very excited to try this due to its stellar reputation, and I was happy to see that it did not disappoint. Fantastic dark brown, almost black color with some nice head and no lacing. Smells great, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, malt and a little brown sugar. Tastes similarly, along with vanilla, caramel and some molasses. Great smooth mild mouthfeel that was a little creamy. Good amount of carbonation. High ABV was fairly well hidden and good balance between sweetness, bitterness and alcohol flavor. Would love to try more of these beers from this outstanding brewery.

Taste: Malty, semi sweet chocolate, coffee bean, vanilla with boozy finish. Rich cocoa and mocha nose. Black, opaque, nice tan head and Belgian lattice of lace. Medium/full body. Smooth with a kick in the ending. 70 IBUs

Poured out looking a little on the thinner side unlike most of the other Speedway's. The smell of the beer has a nice chocolate coffee aroma. The taste is pretty solid, it's loaded with chocolate and coffee which is very nice. The feel of the beer is medium bodied. Overall it's a very good brew.
