Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice large light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of superb floral coffee notes with some roasted malt note sis quite awesome. Taste is a nice mix of floral coffee notes with some roasted malt and light chocolate notes with a hint of residual sugar notes. Body is full with nice creamy texture with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol notes. Solid coffee stout with nice level of complexity while retaining a great deal of drinkability.

Appearance: Pours onyx, with a frothy mocha head that fades a little quicker than expected; a nice dancing pattern of lacing lingers on the glass

Smell: Chocolate and coffee with a modest roast

Taste: Chocolate forward with coffee building; a subtle dose of hops emerges in the middle, but the finish is a return to the chocolate and coffee

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low to moderate carbonation; creamy

Overall: Hadn't realized how old this was when I bought it a few months back; still a great beer even if the coffee may have faded to some extent

Bottle.

A: Moderate roasted grain mixed with mild coffee, with a pronounced bourbon char and vanilla character that lingers through the finish..

A:Black color, totally opaque, with a moderately thin tan head that has adequate retention. Light lacing is left in the glass.

T: Moderate bittersweet/coffee like malt flavor, accentuated with light coffee. Slightly boozy with a light alcoholic character.

M: Full bodied with moderately light carbonation.

O: Tasty; the beer is starting to fall off a bit. The Kona coffee character is definitely more restrained than when fresh. For some reason one of the bottles consumed had a metallic note. Having said that, this beer is still super tasty and drinkable.

Start to fall off a bit, should have drank more fresh. The coffee is really subtle at this point and tasting closer to the regular speedway stout than one infused with coffee.

Saturday night bottle share. Courtesy of Syndicate. And thus, the Boise Beer Cartel was born. Thick, rich stout with minor coffee notes, late warmth. Roast grain goodness leaves you feeling toasty all over.

Bottle provided tonight by Syndicate.. Thanks Darrel. Pours standard black with nice enough khaki head.. Plenty of coffee meshes well with the dark malt and brown sugar elements.. this is rich and very complex.

A really great beer with tons of coffee still present. The nose was really nice, but I did pick up on a strange spice on the finish. Not exactly sure how to describe it, but I felt like it took a bit away from the coffee.

The coffee in this variant is softer than others (i.e. Vietnamese) HOWEVER this one has a nice vanilla/cinnamon thing going on in the background which I dig.g I would say this is a tie with Hawaiian for me as best non barrel aged variants so far. (still need to try JBM and Kopi)

On tap. Tan head. Black in color.

Much similar to the other speedways, but this was felt more fudgy and chocolaty. Very smooth and creamy. Very light roast, more straight up coffee. Rich and sweet. Chocolate, molasses, fudge, and coffee goodness.

Fully bodied. Ends with a little roast. Well done.

Great variant! Almost as good as Hawaiian.

Type: 750-ml bottle (25.4 oz.)
Glass: Clear juice glass
From: AleSmith Brewing Company in San Diego, Calif.
Price: $20.00
Purchased: March 30, 2015
Consumed: Jan. 2, 2016
Misc.: Black foil on neck

Poured a pitch black color with 1-to-2 fingers of frothy, tan head. Average spotty lacing on the sides of the glass. Average retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 3.75)

Smelled boozy roasted coffee malts, dark toffee, smoky char wood, hazelnut, bitter dark chocolate, some caramel and faint vanilla. (Smell - 4.25)

Tasted a lot like the nose. Got those rich, malty coffee beans up front, followed by dark chocolate, roasty hazelnuts, bitter crayon, bourbon barrel notes (although this is not bourbon barrel aged), roasted toffee and char wood. (Taste - 4.00)

Full body. Sticky texture. Soft carbonation. Long, smoth, warming finish. (Feel - 4.25)

This was pretty good, as expected, but not worth the $20. (Overall - 4.00)
