Originally brewed in 2005 as the first in our annual Decadence series, AleSmith Olde Ale follows the tradition of classic British-style Old Ales. We've matured this batch in both premium bourbon barrels and brandy barrels to add a vinaceous complexity to its rich, malty profile. Notes of oak, vanilla, and bourbon compliment the beer's dried fruit and burnt toffee character to make this limited release worth the wait. Designed to be enjoyed now or generously aged in the bottle for years to come.

Fresh double barrel 2014, brandy and bourbon.
The 2013 olde ale (base beer to this) is fantastic and true to the English style, and after having it I have been anxiously awaiting the release of the barrel treated version. The blending of brandy and bourbon barrels was a brilliant idea for this beer, and was executed very well.
The base beer has such a complex and delicate balance of rich dried fruits both dark and light, as well as a mustier old quality and tons of toffee. The barrels did not dominate and the base shines through. The brandy enhances the fruitiness and brightens it up, the bourbon brings out more caramel, stronger toffee and vanilla. As it warms they integrate further and more brown sugar, oak, with booze heat on the finish.
Another fantastic installment in the barrel aged Alesmith line and looking forwards to seeing what careful aging will do.

2015 vintage opened on 01/23/2016. Another homerun from Alesmith's barrel aging program. This beer is absolute perfection, and is on par with King Henry and Aaron in terms of quality. Alesmith clearly understood how the bourbon and brandy would meld with the massive raisin, caramel, and red apple flavor profiles within the malt bill. If you're into balreywine style beer, then seek out this beer. You will not be disappointed.
