Once I heard this was coming out I knew I had to buy it. Was lucky enough to get a few bottles and tried a taster when I picked them up in May 2016. On Untappd, I said it was, “Hot and spicy. Needs some closet time. Creeping toward a 4.25.” Not sure seven more months is enough time, but I’ve been wanting to try it. Hoping to grade out in the 4.15-4.25 range.

Poured a pitch black color with two fingers of frothy tan head which lingered. A few bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Outstanding spotty lacing. Almost perfect foamy retention. (Sight - 4.50)

Smelled dark chocolate, black coffee (Mexican I bet), cocoa, cinnamon, chile peppery spices, hints of smooth bourbon, vanilla creamy espresso and toasted caramel. The spices really surround the chocolate and coffee in a great way. Great on the nose. Not boozy at all. (Smell - 4.50)

Holy shit was my first thought on the taste. So damn smooth. The hotness that I had back in May has disappeared. Getting milk chocolate, cocoa powder, chocolate candies, creamy espresso, cinnamon (not as strong as the nose), spicy peppers (chile?), malt chocolate, vanilla, toasted caramel, incredibly smooth bourbon, just a hint of tequila and a touch of oak. Amazing. (Taste - 4.75)

Full body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel – 4.75)

This was just incredible. For sure the best Speedway Stout variant I’ve ever tried and maybe the best AleSmith beer (sorry BBA Wee Heavy). Just night and day from the taster in May. (Overall - 4.75)

750 mL bottle. Black body with a medium khaki head. Smells of coffee, tequila barrel, cinnamon, and some chocolate. Tastes of tequila right up front, which is disappointing. Coffee flavor is nice, cinnamon is kinda lost. Chocolate and bitter finish. Heavy. Rich. This is the worst Speedway variant I've had. Tequila, ugh.

750mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Dark brown with a thin light brown head.

Nose: interesting mix of dark chocolate, cinnamon, and tequila up front. Not picking up much coffee through it all.

Taste: coffee comes out much more here. A fair amount of tequila presence and dark chocolate round it out. Cinnamon undertones.

Full-bodied, smooth. Low carbonation. A bit of warming character from the tequila.

I was pretty hesitant with this one, I'm not a fan on Tequila Barrel aged anything so when I saw that Alesmith may have potentially ruined a fantastic beer it bothered me a little. The beer poured out much like the other Speedway's, black in color with a thin brown head on top. The smell of the beer is good but I do pick up some of that barrel aging aroma which isn't for me on this one. There is a good amount of coffee in there too thankfully masking some of the Tequila. The taste is good too, there isn't much really showing here outside the coffee and the cinnamon which works for me. The feel is oily and thick. Overall I'm thankful that the beer wasn't a drain pour. Not may favorite in the series but still remains to be a solid offering.

Shared with JLindros. 2016 vintage.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark black hue with a thin mocha head that fades to leave light lacing and a thin halo. Nice legs.

S - Aromas of older chocolate and coffee, nice softer cinnamon. The tequila is a bit vegetative and clashes.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with nice vanilla notes, super light cinnamon but spicy, nice fudgy chocolate notes, the tequila is a bit vegetative on the finish.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, creamy, thick mouthfeel.

O - Overall this was a solid imperial stout. Nice chocolate and coffee, the tequila is pleasant with great barrel notes.

Pours pitch black and thick with a medium sized khaki head that leaves nice lacing.

Aromas of coffee, chocolate, and oak are in the forefront, with nice hints of cinnamon and tequila in the background. I love how the tequila is present, but doesn't dominate. Nice and roasty, and very complex.

The flavor follows the aroma perfectly, with the base beer shining and the adjuncts and barrel adding nice complexity to an already fantastic and complex beer. I was thoroughly impressed with the balance of the coffee, chocolate, cinnamon, and tequila barrel!

The mouth feel was thick, with nice small bubbles carrying the flavor over your tongue. It was viscous enough to coat your tongue for a while after you swallowed.

Just another excellent variant off the perennially delicious Speedway Stout! Some people are saying this wasn't a very good variant, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and think it's a sleeper! I've very happy I have 3 more bottles left!

a truly absurd beer right here, holy cow. got the bottle at the brewery when we were there in late may, and fired it up this weekend. what a treat, and what an enormous drink, 13% abv instead of the 12% listed here, aged in tequila barrels with coffee, cinnamon, and cocoa, its really exquisite, one of the best versions of speedway i have had really, and well worth the asking price! its as thick as fudge, slick oily black with a dense mocha colored head, long legs on the edges of my glass and a hot aroma with the tequila and alcohol coming right through the dark grain in the nose, spicy right away too, bitter from the coffee and chocolate, and really complex, that lush vegetal agave thing on display, along with a ton of chocolate, not overdone on the cinnamon, but this is intimidating a little bit, especially after a huge meal. the taste is so complex! tequila first and throughout, wet and fresh tasting to me, sturdy oak is killer with the coffee, and there is a lot of that too, bitter, roasty, and with a chocolate note of its own. the tequila and coffee are an odd pair, but its super successful here, uncommon and intriguing, but i love it. the booze is a lot to take, but the wood mellows it and all this body sort of stretches it out. its a little sweeter than i need it to be, the bitterness balances but doesnt cut it, and even sharing the bottle a couple of ways feels like too much of this, almost as much a spirit as it is a beer, but i adored this one, laborious as it got to be to drink on towards the end of the night. unrivaled depth of flavor and complexity, unique coffee profile, well proportioned cinnamon, world class through and through!

On tap at the brewery. 8oz pour into a snifter.

Pours an opaque black with absolutely no head present. Not even a ring. Probably due to the tequila.

Smells of slight oak, bourbon, faint tequila coffee and cinnamon. The tequila doesn't dominate, nor does the coffee. They mix and create unique aroma that's not necessarily great, nor bad.

Taste of bourbon, mild coffee, slight tequila and a tad pinch of cinnamon. Very smooth for the tequila addition. Taste better than it smells.

Medium bodied with a decent dry finish. Kind of spicy for what it is. Tequila if we'll balaced here.

Nice variant of the speedway. Not the best if had, but definetly not the worst.
