Definitely a great quality beer, a lot going on as far as flavor( almost overwhelmed with different spices and fruits). Every sip was something new. Not a beer i would drink a lot of but definitely recommend if you haven't already. A-

Taste testing next Duvel, I think AleSmith's rendition is as close to Duvel's standard as any North American brewer has yet achieved. In fact, there are two or three things that I like more about this Devil than Duvel. (But, I am not prepared to knock Duvel off its pedestal, yet.) So at this point in the history of beer (which is much longer than we Americans like to admit), Duvel is still king.... for now.

While a pretty (gold and orange), Alesmith's Devil could use more foam. However, it Smells like a champ; yeasty complex, totally balanced and absolutely no indication that this is a potent brew. Tastes like a champ also; seemingly knowing that Belgium, with centuries more experience, still is not asleep in Alesmith's kettles and, more importantly, that precision in the art of brewing with yeast matters more than the science.

Overall: give me another taste test with Alesmith's rendition and Duvel and, over time, with a variety of foods... we Belgo-philes may have a new global standard. We already have it among American crafters.

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a golden yellow color with a good transparency about it. Carbonation could be seen rising at a moderate pace to fill a rapidly dissipating white semi-foamy head. Lacing sticks nicely around the glass. The smell starts off with basic citrus weaving into some nice Belgian spices. Coriander becomes the main spice that ends up showing its face just a tad more. Light breadiness slides in to balance. The taste was moderately spicy with a dry sweetness claiming itself in the aftertaste and leading into a dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sipping to sessionable feel about it. Carbonation runs light, but then again, that could be due to the age. Overall, this was a pretty good Belgian Strong Pale Ale that I could have again.

This is a truly outstanding Belgian style beer!!! Poured from a bomber into my Augustijn goblet, features a dark gold/light apricot color with a highly carbonated fizzy white head. Head retention is average and there is very little lacing on the glass. Aroma features Belgian yeast, citrus (orange) and spices: coriander, peppercorn and banana flavoring. Slightly sweet with candi sugar and sweet malt. The overall flavor profile is great. As good as most Belgian imports. Mouthfeel is rich. Spicing and carbonation are spot on. alcohol is fairly well hidden. If you like strong Belgian beer, this one is a must to try!!!!

Great beer. Fruity Belgian-style Ale. Noticeable coriander. Can be cloudy in some batches, but absolutely love this beer from my personal favorite San Diego brewery.

My favorite US-brewed Belgian-style Strong Pale and by far my favorite Belgian-style beer by AleSmith. Pity it's not more affordable and sold in 4 or 6-packs.

L: Poured from a bottle to a tulip glass. Had a copper color and a cloudy consistency. There was an inch of foamy / fizzy head that lasted a below average amount of time. Not much lacing.

S: A nice aroma of apples, Belgian yeast, malt, pears, and other fruit.

T: Tasted of some Belgian-style yeast, a bit of malt, some apples, a sugary element, pears, a candi sweetness, some light spices (coriander, in particular), and some banana as well. Definitely an interesting flavor, centered very much on the fruit ingredients. Generally, very sweet and likable.

F: A good amount of carbonation with a somewhat syrupy finish. Medium-bodied.

O; A very solid American version of a Belgian beer. Not perfect, but well worth trying.

Pours a hazy orange, minimal head but plenty of large bubbles clinging to the sides of the glass. Aroma: citrus peel, banana, spice, fruity & grain fragrances. Flavor: belgium ale & IPA. Grainy aftertaste. Carbonation wasn't waisted on a head, plenty left to tickle the tongue. Flavor is a bit weak. Not bad but expected more.

An interesting smell combining the peaches with the hops.
Tastes somehow like a Belgian ale combined with a triple and a bit of an IPA, all surrounded by the flowery and peachy taste, with a little sour and sweet aftertaste.
Enjoyable overall.
