Each year, we celebrate another year in the brewing business by rolling out our stock of barrels and blending different varieties of our oak-aged beers into a fine, one-time only blend for toasting with the valued craft enthusiasts who have helped us get this far. This year, we are releasing a blend composed of three beers previously unseen outside of our cellar. The first is a rum barrel-aged version of our award-winning Old Numbskull barleywine that we have affectionately nicknamed “Old Rumskull.” The woody spice from the rum barrels is balanced by the vanilla character extracted from an English-style Imperial Porter that has been aged in bourbon whiskey barrels.

Loved this, so checked my history and saw every Alesmith beer I've ever had is rated minimum 4. Someone commented "Alesmith can do no wrong"...I agree wholeheartedly.....If you love dark Belgians and can find this, get two (2).

I let this hang out outside all day in lower 50's weather. I really wanted the temp to be right on this. I poured it into my usual Garre glass. I immediately loved the look: almost imperial stout black, just a hint of dark brown (Burnt Umber if you're into crayola) along the surface when I held it up to the light. A brief thin almond foam forms and then is gone. The smell is faint to me. Almost smells like Shaoxing rice wine. The taste is crazy. Every element in its creation comes through but I am really tasting a lot of booze soaked prunes and chocolate. The body is thinner than I expected. The light carbonation is exactly what I expected. The juxtaposition of strong , heavy flavors with a medium body works for me. This isn't the best thing I've ever tasted but I really like it, and it is so imaginative. A wild idea with truly masterful execution. the more I drink it and become acclimated to it the more impressed I get. I spent about an hour drinking a 750 ml. bottle. I wish I had a second to leave until next year.

On tap at Alesmith Anvil and Stave in San Diego, CA.
This one pours a pretty dark black, with a small head and no lacing.
Smells like rum, bourbon, oak, caramel, vanilla, red wine tannins, fruity esters, raisin, and maybe a bit of cherry.
The blend here is pretty masterfully done. The red wine BA quad comes out the strongest, with really nice tannic character, and full bodied fruity character, with some slight esters and toffee like malt. There's also caramel, a hint of rum spice, oak, light bourbon, and creamy vanilla. There's a lot going on here and I love it all.
This is medium bodied, pretty rich and full, with a lower level of carbonation. This is quite silky.
Alesmith can basically do no wrong.

750 mL bottle. Murky deep brown. Big khaki head. Smells of every barrel on the label. Mostly the red wine. Lots of oak. Brown sugar. Tastes of all barrel as well. Bourbon. Red wine. Sweet brown sugar and rum. Boozy. Heavy without being too sugary. This is all over the place, but not bad.
