Taking its name from both Mokha, a historical port city for the distribution of African coffees, and the Sidamo province in Ethiopia, Mokasida is a regional blend of coffees that showcases the subtle characteristics of East African beans. When paired with the chocolate and roast character of our imperial stout, Mokasida imparts notes of cocoa, blueberry, and sweet potatoes to make a truly unique beer.
Also from East Africa and near and dear to our hearts are The Lost Boys of Sudan, a group of civil war refugees from various villages that were able to overcome extraordinary peril during their flight from persecution. AleSmith Brewing Company proudly employs members of The Lost Boys of Sudan and supports the California Lost Boys and Girls Foundation (CLBGF). A portion of proceeds from the sale of this beer will go towards CLBGF.

Speedway Stout is a solid beer in its own right. This variant, Mokasida Coffee, takes it to a whole new level. It is an explosion of deep, rich chocolate and coffee. It doesn't just hint at these flavors like some other stouts. The amount of flavor and depth, without any barrel aging, is remarkable. I can't wait to relive the experience on this one.

Thanks to eyebereej for sending this bottle! Reviewed from notes. 2017 vintage, consumed on 11/30/19. Poured from the 750 mL bottle into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass.
A: Very dark brown to black, and quite opaque. Forms a thin tan head that fades fairly quickly. A low amount of visible carbonation.
S: Coffee and roasted malts. Notes of dark chocolate, vanilla, and toffee. Some roasty bitterness and a touch of char. Some dry tobacco. Nice enough, and no "green pepper" to be found despite the couple years of aging.
T: Dark and bitter coffee, dark roasted malts, tobacco. All balanced with the sweeter caramel and vanilla. Finishes with some dry cacao nibs and a floral-but-heavily-roasted coffee bitterness.
M: A nice heavy body, and the alcohol content (substantial at 12%) is worrisomely well-hidden. Carbonation sensation is low but present.
O: A very tasty, roasty coffee stout. Really enjoyable. I'm impressed.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with some dry floral coffee notes and some black chocolate notes also perceptible. Taste is a great mix of dry roasted coffee notes with some floral notes, some black chocolate notes with a dry finish with some bitter notes. Body is not as full as I was expecting. Enjoyable but coffee notes are more bitter then I would have liked.

Really strong and nice coffee aroma. Taste is old school RIS with coffee. Thin body. Really good beer, but not your modern pastry stout.

Had on tap at Farmhouse Tap and Grill in Burlington VT
Another excellent example of Alesmith Speedway coffee variants.
Pours the typical Speedway. Beautiful Black and Tan pour but higher ABV drops the head/ no lacing.
Nose and taste are full speed Speedway but with a more intense roastiness from coffee. Then the fruit and pecan like nuttiness tools out. Wow!
Classic super smooth and decadent stout.
A wonderful interesting variant that I had missed on release. Thanks to Farmhouse for having on tap today!

Very dark appearance with tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is a malt with raisin and other dark fruit. Taste is also a malt with dark fruit and a little alcohol aftertaste.
