Notes / Commercial Description:
Formerly Sublime Mexican Lager (40oz. To Freedom)

"The band members are all big fans of this style of beer. We wanted to create our thirst-quenching version of a traditional Vienna-style lager (famously brewed by the Mexican breweries) that showcases a grainy, malt-forward sweetness and easy drinkability. Clean and crisp with subdued hop bitterness to balance, makes Sublime Mexican Lager the go-to beer for hot summer days or pre-concert tailgating." -- AleSmith owner/CEO, Peter Zien

Picked this up on a recent trip to Bine & Vine as part of a variety 6-pack (and 10 percent off). Saw the release for the collab with Sublime called 40 Ounces to Freedom awhile back, but was hoping to have it at the brewery. A 12-oz. can would work just fine. Going in was trying to decide if it was an American Adjunct Lager, an American Pale Lager, Light Lager or Vienna Lager. After some research, AleSmith’s Peter Zien “wanted to create our thirst-quenching version of a traditional Vienna-style lager (famously brewed by the Mexican breweries) that showcases a grainy, malt-forward sweetness and easy drinkability. Clean and crisp with subdued hop bitterness to balance, makes Sublime Mexican Lager the go-to beer for hot summer days or pre-concert tailgating.” Let’s do it.

Poured a light amber clear color with 4-to-5 fingers of off-white rocky head. Lots of fast-moving bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Decent watery lacing. Good retention. (Sight - 3.75)

Smelled grain, Cheerios, corn, hints of caramel, lightly toasted malts and hints of dry honey. (Smell - 3.75)

Taste was about the same as the nose, maybe slightly better. Got grain, Honey Nut Cheerios, lightly toasted caramel malts, bread and Marzen-like flavors. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, clean finish. (Feel - 4.00)

Liked this one for the style. Would have again for sure. (Overall - 4.00)

Great album, great album art, very good beer. Went into this one with slight trepidation, will it be just a cash grab or what? Pours a copper auburn kind of color, good Vienna malt, 1/3" off white head, lots of clarity despite the fall like colors. Has that Vienna slightly sweeter Octoberfest smell to it.

Taste, wow, this is really smooth yet malty and easy drinking, not heavy, not sticky, not bitter. Hops almost entirely absent and appropriate for style that is. Man this is some decent summer and fall kind of drinking beer. Can see it being a crowd pleaser, its good enough for this discerning hop head, but definitely for those who don't like hops, this could be right up their alley.

What came off as suspect actually turned out to be a really good beer. They really nailed this one methinks.

It’s an awesome release, being everyone loves sublime!

The beer itself is nothing special, all about the can here.

Very reminiscent of a Budweiser. Malt and corn forward with a decent somewhat refreshing finish.

This would be a decent bar beer, but nothing to rave over. If you like your standard corporate beers like Budweiser and coors, you’ll love this amped up version.

12 ounce can poured into a pint glass

Pours a clear light amber color with a white head, lots of carbonation, no lacing or retention, looks very light.

Lots of grainy sweetness, subtle biscuit malt, light honey, pretty straightforward.

Grainy sweetness is really strong on the taste, light honey, light biscuit malt, finish is clean but not crisp like I was expecting, grainy note lingers in the finish.

Light bodied, good amount of carbonation, clean finish.

O: It follows the description, it's grainy sweet, malt forward and easy to drink, there isn't any depth or complexity to this beer, but it's definitely a beer to drink in hot weather.

Found my new favorite lager. I'll be spending a lot of time with this one Fishing and camping this summer.
Nice clean crisp taste and a lot my flavor then you would think. Nice job Alesmith.

I rank it up there with Devils Backbone VL. Not much aroma. Taste is sweet malt little corn with good carbonation. I like this and would buy again if not a brewed once type beer.

Poured from a 12 OZ can into a pint glass. The appearance is a clear light amber gold color with a small white head. The aroma is faint hops. The taste is a mild hop flavor. very sessionable.

Nearly transparent golden amber with a thin white head that recedes quickly leaving minimal lacing. Aroma has grainy malt and subdued floral hops. Taste is malt forward with a slight sweetness and a clean, dry finish.

Pours a light copper, dark gold with normal carbonation. Taste is a malty fruitiness, reminds me of an english bitter without the english yeast. Okay but lots of other craft lager options out there.
