Pours an oily black with a finger of khaki head that lasted about a minute before fading to a floating ring.

Smells of dark chocolate, toasted sugar, caramel, and surprisingly, less vanilla than I expected

Taste is bourbon, charred oak, bitter chocolate. Hint of vanilla.

Alcohol is very present, slightly oily, a bit on the sweet side. Full bodied.

Received in a trade and shared with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark black hue with a thin mocha head that fades to leave light wisps and a thin halo. Legs fade really fast.

S - Aromas of vanilla creme and beans, little bit of chocolate and coffee. Decent vanilla, some bourbon.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with big vanilla notes, quite sweet. The chocolate is a bit restrained. Little coffee, fair amount of dark malts. Decent amount of bourbon. The vanilla is strong but not overpowering.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, creamy, body is thick yet thin somehow. Vanilla is nice but slightly cloy.

Decent fluffy head, mild lacing, pitch black beer
Nose super dark chocolate cocoa a bit of coffee, flashes of bourbon, and some vanilla

Taste more vanilla, fresh vanilla beans and some dark chocolate cocoa, roasted coffee, flashes of bourbon barrel, but nice vanilla

Mouth is full rich bod, a bit of warming alcohol, decent carb

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Near black with a one inch light brown head.

Nose: Phenomenal. Rich chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and bourbon.

Taste: Bourbon and coffee up front. Vanilla comes in next. Not the slightest bit artificial as many beers with vanilla additions can be. Finish is a touch hot - could maybe use a few months to settle down a bit.

Feel: Full-bodied, rich, medium-low carbonation.

Pours a deep, rich brown with no head. I didnt get a lot of vanilla on the nose like youd think you would but instead got notes of coffee and barrel woodiness. It doesnt have a huge punch of vanilla but thats a good thing. Its definitely there but its mellow and warms up and becomes more pronounced as you drink. The best part is its genuine vanilla flavor and not an overly sweet adjunct-y sort of vanilla; smooth and just the right amount of sugar. 13% and this one warms from your tongue all the way down to your belly and is sure to put a wobble in your step. Excellent beer.
