Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice. Bottled on 07/24/13.

Appearance: Pours a deep and clear copper amber golden orange. Moderate amount of rising bubbles and a solid three fingers of off white head with decent retention. Leaves a good amount of lacing sticking to the glass.

Smell: A big ripe West Coast Style aroma with lots of citrus fruit and pine hints. Citrus hops upfront with ripe fruit hints of orange peel, grapefruit, tangerine, mango, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, lemon, and melon. Earthy and herbal hops in the mix with some hints of grass and spicy pine resin. Slightly perfume like. Solid backing malt presence with hints of sweet caramel, grains, biscuit, cracker, and yeast. Slight hint of honey as well. A very good West Coast aroma.

Taste: Lives up to the great aroma with a big ripe taste of citrus and piney hops with a solid malt background. Big upfront taste of citrus hop fruit esters with notes of orange rind, grapefruit, mango, tangerine, pineapple, passion fruit, apricot, lemon zest, and melon. Herbal and earthy hop notes with a taste of spicy pine resin along with some grass. Fairly dank, perfumey, and nicely bitter hop presence. Good supporting malt presence with notes of caramel, grains, biscuit, yeast, cracker, and a little honey sweetness. A very good full on West Coast IPA taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy, ripe, and fairly oily. Clean and smooth considering the big hop presence. Finishes pretty dry.

Overall: A really great West Coast style IPA. Very good citrus and piney hop taste with a decent malt balance. One of the best in the style.

bomber into a tulip with no bottling date.

pours a crisp darker copper color with a 2 inch foamy , lasting white head. Big piney hoppiness on this beer, very nice aroma. The taste starts off with a rush of bitterness followed by the taste of pine with a tad of grapefruit. Not a lot of malt presence, this one definitely favors the hops. finishes with a lingering bitterness that stays with you for a bit. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. 7.25% is apparent, too. Nice warming quality.

Overall just a solid hop forward IPA. This is more traditional for the style, and it is done very well. If youre in the mood for a solid IPA, you wont be disappointed.
