I gotta say, even for the significant age of this ipa, it's certainly my favorite.
It was a bit hazy, amber/gold. About a fingers worth of head. A good looking beet for sure.
Slight citrus not on the nose, but pine is definitely more at the forefront along with the malts.
The taste is similar and spectacular. It has a great deal of piney bitterness, but iy is SO well balanced by the malt, not too overwhelming, but definitely not too sweet.
It felt like a craft soda, small bubbles for a silky mouthfeel. It was damn- near chuggable.
Overall, it speaks well of the west coast style. It's sure to satisfy.

A- Dark orange body out of the light. But in the light, the body color is a nice honey, yellow color. It is on the hazy side, but I do not notice any sediment in the beer. The head is 2 finger, frothy, and bright-white in color. Head died to a nice 1 finger in size. It is leaving some very nice lacing. Great looking west coast style IPA> But as of lately, I'm really fond of the New England "hazy" IPA/Pale Ale look.

S- Lots of pineapple and sweet bready malts. I also get the typical grapefruits in there as well. I detect some caramel notes as well. Light notes of pine and leather. Pretty standard west coast IPA, but good.

T- This is how a good west coast IPA should taste. It's fairly balanced between the hop notes and the malty taste. I notice that compared to New England style IPAs that this has a darker, caramel malt, kind of taste. Upfront I get the pineapple and grapefruit notes. Light pine notes and some oily, resinous notes. Slightly dank towards the end, but I'd say Alesmith IPA finishes fairly clean. It's not overly dry.

F- The body is medium in feel. It's crisp, clean, and pretty refreshing. This doesn't quite drink like citrus juice in the way some New England style IPAs do, but I'd say the drinkability is quite high on this.

Overall this is a great tasting west coast IPA. It's not too bitter at all. And it's not super, super dank. I can't stand an IPA or Imperial IPA that is way too hoppy and dank. It's almost undrinkable to me. This is really well balanced between the malts and hops. I tend to like the IPA's that are on the citrus juice side of the mouthfeel, but this a great IPA I would never hesitate to drink when I'm in the mood for this style.

poured this into an ipa glass and it poured amber color with a nice white lacing that sticks to the glass. the smell is of grapefruit and pine. this brew has a bite, the taste is bitter like orange peel and pine. the feel is crisp and the dry finish is similar to tanons on the tongue. overall this is a refreshing ipa, it is not the best but its good.

Draft. Honey colr, slight haze. Minimal head with just a touch of lacing. Hops and bread/caramel on the nose. Strong grapefruit hoppiness on the first taste, then the malt makes a comeback with the finish. Classic IPA; delicious!

Aroma - citrus, pine, floral, cracker malt. Below average intensity for the style.

Taste - grapefruit, orange with a medium bitter, semi-dry piney finish.

Overall - a classic IPA that was awesome 10 years ago. It's a little better than middle of the road today. Overpriced and over rated. Still nice to drink, though.

Bottled 11/30/15

Pours honey golden color with off white, frothy head which dissipates quickly to a sparse top layer. Large bubbled collar. Very small particles in suspension.

Nose is tropical fruits with grapefruit and ample bread, cracker. As it warms, the malts overtake the fruity hops in the nose.

Taste is hop bite of grapefruit with hints of orange and lemon. Bold cracker malt in tandem with the hop acidity. Strong bitterness on the back of the palate and tongue but allows some sweetness through. Similar to the aroma, the malts come into balance with the hops as it warms up and the palate adjusts to the initial citrus bite.

Wouldn't say it is clean or crisp as the bitterness lingers quite a bit, but it's on the lighter side in the feel. A touch sticky.

This one has been around a while and finally brought myself to get some now that it's available in 6pk 12oz bottles. Very solid with all the right characteristics of citrus, bitterness, and bready malt. It's a true classic with a great showcase of how malts can compliment rather than detriment a hoppy IPA.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy amber with finger white head, great retention, soapy lace. Bready aroma with piney hops. Taste is a very nice balance of toasted bread malt with bitter piney and grapefruit peel hops. Clean crisp finish with medium slightly oily mouthfeel.

This beer pours a mostly clear light copper color with a two finger bright white head. There is a half finger cap that lasts the duration and it leaves chunky sheets of lacing. The smell is all citrus (grapefruit and orange) with a touch of pine and dankness. The taste is the same with moderate bitterness, but a decent bit of pale malt to really balance it out. Feel is medium, a bit slick and there is good carbonation. Overall a great IPA. Very hoppy but nicely balanced. Reminds me of a west coast version of two hearted.

12 ounce bottle - $2.75 at Tasty Beverage Company in Asheville, North Carolina.

Appearance: Coppery body in a hue, mostly clear with a full-sized flush of plush, off-white foam crowning the brew. Lovely lacing on the descent.

Smell: Citrusy - fruity, zestful and juicy with a backing of pine needless atop some slender pale maltiness and light touch of orange blossom honey.

Taste: Pale malts with a little honeyed sweetness. Fresh, chin-running citrus juices and a playful fruitiness is cut by a vein of resinous pine. Moderate bitterness. A little touch of honey dew and mint. Near dry and lightly bitter on the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation. A beer that moves with ease, really.

Overall: With hundreds of reviews already on the record for this beer, it probably isn't going to change anyone's mind, but I really liked it.

12 ounce bottle poured into a tulip glass

A: Pours a golden, semi dark orange, bright white head, lots of lacing, good amount of carbonation streaming off the bottom, clear, looks nice.

A: Lots of aroma, garlic/onion, mango, grapefruit, orange, citrus, tropical notes, smells really good.

T: Mango, grapefruit, oranges, hint of onion/garlic, slight pine and resin, bitterness is like grapefruit rind, finishes with some sweet malts on the backend, tastes very good.

M: Medium body mouthfeel, dry finish, good amount of carbonation.

O: Very tasty IPA, it has a good mix of tropical and citrus notes, some pine, nicely balanced with the malts, this is an IPA I will be reaching for more often.

A great IPA even though it has a malt balance its a true west coast style IPA; piney, grapefruit and citrus taste that is very delicious! Make sure to buy fresh and it is a serious top level IPA! One of my favorite IPAs and if bought fresh will not let you down, a true hop lovers delight! A ++ From a bomber and purchased and enjoyed a month later after production.

12oz bottle poured into tulip glass. Brew is about 2 months old per date on bottle. Had to make its way across the country to the Pittsburgh market as AleSmith just became available about 2 weeks ago in this market.

Look: Pours a nice golden color with about an inch of head with lacing present.

Smell: Citrus, pine, hops, grapefruit.

Taste: Hoppy deliciousness along with grapefruit and citrus notes.

Feel: Medium bodied.

Overall: This is my first brew from AleSmith and it is a very solid IPA! Finally able to get their beers in the Pittsburgh market. Can't wait to try some other brews especially the Speedway Stout!

Pours a hazy Golden Orange with a large, white, soapy head. Smells of wonderful bitter citrus and a bit of funk. Awesome bitter citrus hops and piney resin that floats up the nose. A bit ago malt that allows the great hops to slightly dominate. There is a bit of candied orange in the final stage. Wonderful mouthfeel just as an AIPA should be. A bit of funk sneaks in the end.

Look: Hazy golden amber with tons of fluffy off white head and lots of sticky lacing
Smell: dank, tropical and citrus fruit, some resin
Taste: Finely balanced sweet malt and citrus/tropical fruits. A somewhat unusual finish with some papery metallic flavors and a spicy alcoholic finish. These flavors grow harsh as the beer warms. moderate bitterness for the style.
Feel: Medium to full body with perfect carbonation

Overall: A solid IPA - checks most of the boxes - but I didn't find it to be exceptional, particularly considering the price. the finish was the only thing that seemed just a bit odd- the harsh metallic and alcohol flavors threw me off a bit. Drunk cool these harsh flavors are less noticeable. Sample was about 7 weeks old.

Love you forever and forever
Love you with all my heart
Love you whenever we're together
Love you when we're apart

And when at last I find you
Your song will fill the air
Sing it loud so I can hear you
Make it easy to be near you
For the things you do endear you to me
Oh, you know I will

A very solid IPA. Loads of citrus and tropical fruits in the smell and the taste. A bit over carbonated and way before its time. But put up to some of the newer ipas on the market its no longer as unique as it may have been 10+ years ago. But delicious and worth the price.

Picked this beer up recently at the Whole foods on Columbus Circle in New York, having never had this before. I loved their Speedway Stout and after seeing how highly-rated it was on here, I was exciting for find this in a smaller size given how their other offerings were found in bombers. While not the best IPA that I've had, I can see why people enjoy this so much given how recessed the alcohol was and how wonderful the flavor and mouthfeel were. This was a bit strong but never felt or tasted it and it was hard not to drink quickly, in addition!

Nice pour to this as the beer had a deep golden hue, fluffy head, and somewhat cloudy appearance to it. The foam took a while to settle and was present until the end in the form of a fair amount of lacing left in layers on the side of my pint glass. Lots of citrus, pine, and pineapple in the nose with even more in the taste as well. The bready malt gave this good balance as the hop bitterness never dominated or "burned" too much and the sticky, sappy nature of this shone through wonderfully. While not juicy, this wasn't dry either as this beer struck a nice balance all-around.

While strong, this wasn't overpowering and was easy to enjoy from the get-go. I could see why people liked this so much and this was a solid offering to review on here. With so many IPA's out there, there are better and tastier examples to find but it would be hard to go wrong with this one. Another winner from AleSmith that was worth going to another state to obtain!

Beautiful, golden clarity. Dense, frothy head with exceptional retention and large patches of lacing.

Dense, pine, citrus, grassy, herbal, weedy aroma.

Aggressive, pine, resin, grapefruit, detergent hop flavor upfront. Mild citrus in the middle. Minimal sweetness from the malt although I hesitate to call it unbalanced considering the style. Bone dry finish with lingering detergent, quinine bitterness.

Medium bodied. Well carbonated and super dry.

I love sweeter, malty, and fruity IPA's but I also enjoy a strickly bitter version like this. Delivers everything it promises in an elegant way.

12 oz bottle poured into a shaker pint.

Gold with 1 finger of off-white head. Slightly hazy with light carbonation.

Candied citrus, pine, grapefruit, honey, dank greens, and bright florals.

Grapefruit, candied orange, and dank greens. Pine, bright florals, and honey. Finishes with grapefruit zest and pine needle.

Medium bodied, crisp, oily, and semi-dry / semi-juicy with a moderately light bitterness.

Big flavors, easy drinking. It hits the citrus / pine notes spot on. An outstanding IPA!

I have passed this beer up sooooo many times just hoping I will one day find a fresh bottle to enjoy. Finally the time has come and I am severely impressed by this ipa ! I honestly can not think of a much better example of the style . . . This may be my new standard for an American ipa. Along with the likes of Racer 5, Two Hearted, Columbus and Anti-Hero. Alesmith ipa is beautiful in appearance. Aromas are floral and tropical. Feel is smooth and creamy with substance. Taste is hoppy but not over the top so much it will burn you up after a couple. Overall, possibly the perfect example.

Well, I may come back and change this, but as of this minute, I can't think of an AIPA that does this better. Hoppy, but not really one dimensional.

It's beautiful in the glass. Dark yellow with a little fizz. The aroma is strong and grassy - a bag of weed.

The taste is bitter, pungent and more bitter and more pungent. There are lots of different hops tastes presenting themselves in concert more than in balance. There is malt and booze, but they are more like the vehicle for an essence than the main attraction.

The aftertaste is a sublime bitterness with a hint of sweet malts.

This bottle is about 6o days old - perfect.

Obviously, this great, great AIPA is highly recommended as a wonderful example of the style, and certainly one of the best.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium coppery amber with a half finger white head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of light sweet malt, citrus hops, orange family citrus, grapefruit and lemon rind, lightly floral and estery. Flavor is neutral malt, citrus hops with a little pine, orange and tangerine, with more intense citrus rind hop bitterness in the finish. Lingering citrus hops. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A nice citrus forward IPA. The malt has very little flavor of its own, but does a great job of supporting the hop flavors, which get more intense and interesting in the finish. Some really nice fruit esters and citrus rind flavors develop and linger. Even to my jaded wet and dry-hopped palate in this best of IPA seasons, this stood out for pleasant flavor. The finish is very nicely balanced in hop bitterness and herbal flavors. Well done.

Paid $2.19 for the two month old 12 ounce bottle. Hazy golden orange color with almost four fingers of white long lasting head. Very good amount of lace.
Smell was fruit and biscuit malt.
Taste is tropical fruit mango pink grapefruit light hop oil with a lightly sweet malt backing.
Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. Finish is moderately bitter and dry from the resinous hop oils.
Overall one of those tasty beers that are like a junior DIPA. Very easy drinking West Coast IPA. Lots of flavor for the style. Now that I can get six packs of this fine beer I will be enjoying it more often.
