Huge thanks to Mike for this one. 750ml capped bottle into a Founders snifter. Shared with schen9303.

Pours a massive, frothy 3 finger mocha colored head with good retention. Beer is pitch black. Lacing is thick, web-like and layered with excellent stick. Quite the looker!

Nose is unmistakable kopi. Chocolate, fudge, cocoa powder, light sweetness and copious amounts of coffee. A nice creaminess from lactose and vanilla round out the experience. Excellent.

Opens chocolate, cocoa, fudge, and coffee. Some molasses, leather and a light smoked malt in the middle. Dark chocolate and coffee dominate the experience. End is sweet and sticky black strap molasses and more coffee. Aftertaste is the same. Straight, to the point, and very very good.

Full bodied with low carbonation. Oily, slick, and rich in the mouth and goes down boozy, sweet, and sticky. Finishes messy with a lingering aftertaste that coats the mouth. Spot on.

This beer is proof that not every beer needs to be barrel aged or super-duper limited to be good. Alesmith knocks it out of the park with this one and I really hope they choose to remake this one in the future. This is actually better than the barrel-aged version of the same beer. Simply out-of-this-world

750mL bottle into a snifter
No born on date, but I believe this is the latest vintage
I had regular Speedway just a couple of days ago, so its fresh in my mind for comparison.

A big thanks to BMart for sending this one over in a trade.

A: Pours pitch black, almost no lightening on the edges even when held to light, with a dense mocha colored head thats just under 2 fingers width in height. Head dissipates at a moderate rate down to a thin film, and leaves tons of really cool honeycomb lacing.

S: Strong black coffee but not at all harsh. Really a delicious, fresh, bold coffee aroma. Behind the coffee there are some milk chocolate and bakers chocolate notes. I also get roasted malt, heavy cream, cinnamon, and even a bit of oaky-vanilla barrel like characters (even though this is not BA). The aroma is just simply incredible.

T: Equally delicious on the tongue. Gourmet coffee, milk and bakers chocolate, roasted malt. Theres the phenolic/medicinal character thats present in the regular speedway but more muted in this variant. There is a bitterness on the finish from the coffee and semi-sweet cocoa notes that lingers for a long time in the aftertaste. Excellent.

M/D: Very smooth, moderate carbonation which is a touch too heavy for my preference, full bodied but not necessarily thick. ABV is very well masked and drinkability is above average.

O: Incredible beer. Compared to the regular Speedway I had 2 days ago, this one takes an already great beer and kicks it up a notch. The coffee characters are so much more prevalant, smoother, and bolder in this one. It also masks the somewhat astrigent medicinal character that is the only downside of the regular Speedway. Really a world class beer, one of the best non-BA stouts Ive ever had.

Split three ways on 6.18.13

A - Pours a dark opaque brown, almost black with a fine, silky dark tan head comprised of small bubbles that just sit on top.

S - Lot of roasted coffee, roasted malt, some subtle chocolate.

T - Similar to the nose, but very smooth coffee, not bitter at all. Very good and dangerously drinkable.

D - Silky smooth heavy body with great carbonation for the style.

O - An amazing beer with a different story. Weasel poop, who knew?

Large format bottle into a mini taster glass. The brew pours black in color with a khaki colored head that is similar to the base brew as expected. A little bit of spotty lacing sticks to the glass.

The aroma is quite earthen with more focus on chocolate than I am use to smelling in speedway. The roasted coffee appeal has that familiar aspect of kopi but honestly it doesnt have that much of an impact to make it prominent.

The flavor is quite tasty with roasty coffee flavors that blend into more of an earthen flavor. A bit of chocolate emerges from the roast and a touch of fruity alcohol esters.

This is a modestly carbonated offering with a medium body. It is easy drinking with the alcohol being masked much better than normal speedway. Kopi Luwak coffee's most noticeable aspect is how rich and smooth it is with a unique earthen aroma and flavor. I felt lots of the kopi specific traits were lost here but it still made for an enjoyable experience.
