Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Also known as YuleSmith (Summer)

Every year we anxiously await the warmer months to unleash this Double IPA, the summer edition of our former YuleSmith seasonals. The flavor imparts orange, grapefruit, and tangerine hop notes with earthy, spicy, and resinous pine undertones. A sturdy malt backbone balances out the profound hop bitterness to create a refreshingly assertive and vibrant beer that offers an unapologetically bold expression of fresh American hops.

YEAR ROUND: No – July / August

-spiegelau ipa glass.

A: Hazy, dense tangerine color with a slight, frothy light beige capping of relative short duration. Slight sticky foam ring lace, a hard to distinguish carbonation factor is hidden within the dense oj like nature.

S: Sweet and spicy tangerines and citrus explode upon uncapping and the pour. Sugar coated grapefruit pulp, semi-dry lemon slices, with some fresh wet pine, all of good strength and lasting appeal. Hints of sour citrus comes at the very end.

T: The flavor had tons of grapefruit and tangerine hops which were spicy and dripping wet. Sharp citrus bite, with some alcohol and pine resins followed by some citrus peel.

M: Spritzy carbonation factor provides for a lively mouthful, with a thick and creamy body and feel. Really nice consistency on the tongue.

O: Outstanding flavor, sharp carbonation and drink-ability, a flavor that bursts with wet grapefruit citrus and pine that reminds me of the first time i had the stone original pale. Well balanced, great drink-ability, alcohol glow and respectable hops. outstanding overall, case worthy.

Pours to a slightly opaque gold, not cloudy though. Tremendous head, fades to medium lacing and surface-only layer.
Aroma is prominent alcohol as is the taste. The hops are there, but I fear my bottle is old, date is illegible, but its been in my fridge for about 3 weeks.
Not horrible, but don't know if I would buy it again, given other options.

Look: It pours golden with a slightly off white head and plenty of lacing.

Smell: It has stone fruit aromas that feature peach and apricot.

Taste: There are apricot, peach, caramel, and floral flavors.

Feel: It has a moderate feel with high bitterness and alcohol warming

Overall, the flavors of peach and apricot start off sweet and turn to bitter and is long lasting through the finish.

Got this one as an extra in a trade, poured from a 12oz bottle into a snifter glass.

Look - kind of like a burnt orange color with a slight haze, with a slight head.

Smell - very floral, sweet smell, I got like a tropical fruit scent, but can't pinpoint exactly which fruit

Taste - for me the mouth didn't follow the nose. The beginning was piney with a hint of sweet citrus but then fell right into a bitter, biting end. It kind or reminded me of sucking on the rind of an orange or grapefruit. But that's pretty typical of these types of DIPA's, so it really wasn't that surprising.

Feel - surprisingly it went down smooth, with a light carbonation.

Overall - I like my DIPA's a little less bitter to this, I'm not a huge fan of dry hopped beers. I've heard a lot of people rave about this beer and I'm glad I got the opportunity to try this. I just don't know if I'd drink again, but well worth it as an extra in the trade.

Reminds me of 90 minute. With that licorice taste. It's also very citrusy and a bit piney. I'd like to see this fresher but this good stuff

A 12oz bottle picked up at the brewery, with a bottled on date of 4.16.16

L - Yellow/copper, with some clarity, 2 fingers of head and HUGE lacing left on the top of the brew and all over the glass

S - Dry hopped, citrus, tangerine

T - Insanely hoppy and well balanced, between citrus and pine. So smooth, and hidden ABV.

F - Well carbonated, medium body. oily and smooth

O - An amazingly tasty, smooth, well balanced DIPA. Alesmith rocks it
