Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Also known as YuleSmith (Summer)

Every year we anxiously await the warmer months to unleash this Double IPA, the summer edition of our former YuleSmith seasonals. The flavor imparts orange, grapefruit, and tangerine hop notes with earthy, spicy, and resinous pine undertones. A sturdy malt backbone balances out the profound hop bitterness to create a refreshingly assertive and vibrant beer that offers an unapologetically bold expression of fresh American hops.

YEAR ROUND: No – July / August

Pours a golden brassy hue with a moderate finger high, stark white head. Good retention leaving an attractive ring of lacing on the glass.

Sweet malt, slightly bready and doughy with overtones of tropical fruit and orange citrus. Overall floral with some dankness provided by the pine hops and malt.

Even balanced between bready malt with some cookie dough and a grapefruit and resiny and earthy pine hop character. The hops begin to take on some spicy notes in the middle of the drink and the bitterness is moderate but pinching. Alcohol feel is moderate.

It takes some getting used to but all Alesmith beers have this velvety soft carbonation that make the feel of their beers nearly creamy across the palate and this one is no exception. The bitterness is slightly sharp and alcohol could be more well hidden, otherwise perfect.

Seasonal big brother to Alesmith IPA, it's a well balanced treat that has some aspects that stand out in the crowd. Get it fresh and enjoy the zesty bitter burn.

Yeah buddy! Bottled on 5/25/13.

A: Nice brassy light amber. One finger head. Appropriate khaki color. Moderate retention. Very good clarity. Not hazy like many DIPA's. Carbonation appears minimal, with tiny little bubbles making their way to the surface.

S: Hoppy, yes. Very fruity hops, with some grapefruit bitterness (rind) being pulled out. Mainly tropical fruit here. Malt plays a nearly equal role. Lot of sweet breadiness coming from the glass. Bit of baking spice and that yeasty doughiness.

T: Malt dominant taste. Round tropical fruit intermingled with zesty spiciness. Sweet, bready malts bring up the mid. Finish is moderately bitter, with the malt doing most of the talking. Aftertaste of pine needles and grapefruit peel.

T: Silky smooth. Alesmith's bottle conditioning is top notch and their beers are always pleasant on the tongue.

O: Good, but lil brother (Alesmith IPA) does it better.
