Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 12.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This Vietnamese coffee version of Speedway Stout is and continues to be AleSmith's most popular variation of the ever-growing Speedway Stout collection. Since 2012 we have been adding this blend of four Vietnamese coffees, known in Vietnam as cà phê sa đá, to our popular imperial stout. The coffee beans were slowly roasted at low temperatures and then brewed by AleSmith with a traditional phin-style filter that gently percolates water through the ground coffee. The result is an intensely aromatic and bold tasting coffee that complements the notes of chocolate and roast in this massive stout.

Using the spicy, earthy and robust delight of Vietnamese coffee, the intense yearly stout of AleSmith sees greater heights.

Vietnamese Coffee infused Speedway Stout pours much like any other in the series- with a jet black opaqueness and with a creamy mocha froth. Its scent however is bolder than ever with the strong overtones of dark roast coffee along with the same molasses, dark chocolate and natural coffee character that's common to the standard stout. Burnt marshmallows and espresso roll onto the tongue as its roasty cream, chocolate, coffee and black walnut maltiness intimidates the senses with the very first sip.

The middle palate shows more of a coffee balanced tilt as the malt sweetness slowly lifts and the coffee and roasted grain character starts to saturate the tastebuds fully. Creamy roast borrows a silkiness from heavy whipping cream with hints of vanilla and smoky char. Earthiness of coffee presents a spicy soil character similar to turkish coffee and black pepper. Baker's chocolate and walnut offer a brownie-like taste even as the finish comes in drier and toastier than initially thought.

Full bodied, lavish and full, the beer's creamy upstart is broken on the finish with the spice and earth of coffee along with the sharp alcohol warmth and a certain roast derived astringency- all helping to dry the palate and create a sense of drinkability beyond relegating the stout as only a sipping after dinner beer.

Love the base beer and the coffee takes it up a notch. Not sure the age, but probably a little too long on the age. Coffee is probably better fresh in this beer

On tap at Himmeriget in Copenhagen.

Jet black with a light, brown head.

Excellent nose, bursting with coffee, chocolate and vanilla.

The taste is huge! Sweet and roasted, with so much coffee and chocolate it feels like I'm drinking a cake. Pretty much no alcohol, and some terrific vanilla notes in the finish.

Mouthfeel is just right, thick and oily, but not overly so.

Alesmth is my favorite brewery, and this is another great take on the Speedway. Huge in both smell and taste, it ticks every box I want a stout to tick. I want more....
