Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 12.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This Vietnamese coffee version of Speedway Stout is and continues to be AleSmith's most popular variation of the ever-growing Speedway Stout collection. Since 2012 we have been adding this blend of four Vietnamese coffees, known in Vietnam as cà phê sa đá, to our popular imperial stout. The coffee beans were slowly roasted at low temperatures and then brewed by AleSmith with a traditional phin-style filter that gently percolates water through the ground coffee. The result is an intensely aromatic and bold tasting coffee that complements the notes of chocolate and roast in this massive stout.

@ Ridgewood

Served up an inky black color with a thick pillow of tan foam on the surface. Aroma is dark chocolate forward, a tad syrupy like I find the regular version to be...hazelnut coffee, vanilla cream, molasses, and bread crust. Flavor is coffee and cream, dark roasted malt goodness, cocoa, and an initial woody spice that decreases as it warms. Not super coffee forward, but certainly has a mocha-like quality. Light berry fruitiness and vanilla sweetness. Surprisingly not too sweet or boozy though - not boozy at all in fact, which is impressive. Pretty heavy feeling and very soft with some lingering bitter roast. Good stuff - especially as it warms up.

Excellent integration of coffee into a beer. Stout still shines, with coffee countering the inherent boozy nature of a beer of this abv. Another winner from Alesmith.
