This is a pilsner. It is what a pilsner is meant to be. From one of the oldest breweries in the world, this beer is good. The hops will punch you in the face because you aren't expecting them. Once you get over that shock, you start thinking wow this is definitely what I want to drink from here on out.

11.2 oz bottle BB 12/15/17 poured into a pilsner glass at fridge temp. Pours bright and pale straw color. One inch of white head persists for a while and fades away leaving minimal lacing. Smell is slightly sweet with grass and lemon predominant. Taste follows with pils malt, then grass & lemon, finishing with balancing bitterness. Mouthfeel is mostly dry and sharply carbonated. Overall, great value for $6/6pk and very tasty. You can pay a lot more for this style and probably couldn't tell in a blind tasting.

Wernesgruner pils legend from Wernesgrüner Brauerei bought a 4 packs for 7,99$

Look: Yellow clear color. Lots of carbonation and lots of bubble going up quikly. About 2 finger of white head. Very nice looking beer.

Smell: Grassy hops.

Taste: The hop is very present. Very soft, the sweetness is there. The bitterness is there on the front of your tongue.

Feel: Light to medium body. Very soft. on the watery side. I enjoyed this beer.

So overall would I recommend it ? Absolutely, I really liked it for my side and I think this beer is under rated.

From Alcampo. In Teku glass. After dinner. Watery, with a strong and grassy hoppyness like in a Cruzcampo. A bit better than a Cruzcampo, probably because the lack of adjuncts, but its slight higher quality doesnt justify paying a higher price for it. Nearly no foam and dissapearing quickly. BB Date in 6 months.

A real nice clear beer with a SRM of about 2. The look of this beer is very clear.

The smell is very low, and the taste is like all the commercial beer found in every liquor store.

The bitterness is more pronounced in this one than other commercial beer.

The IBU would be about 15, and you'll have to pay 2.95 $ (cad) for a 500 ml can.

Clear straw color with moderate activity. Foamy white 3 finger head, lasting around 10 minutes, with a good amount of lacing. Flavors of biscuit and bread, sweet grains, slightly metallic, noble hops, very faint skunk. A little sweet with some sharpness. Slick full body with subtle crispy carbonation. Light finish, lingering grassy hoppy feel, with fresh malty notes, and faint lemon. A little faint, but for a pils its well intensified. The finish is pretty nice. Well balanced taste, no corn or adjunct feel, nor unpleasantly skunky. Very fresh and pleasing to drink. Overall good quality craft.

Excited at finding a few outstanding beers at Aldi's, this popped my balloon.

Poured gently into a pint glass.

L = straw yellow, almost no head but typical Pils white, minimal rimming. Nothing like you'd find on a nice luscious Czech Pils or a Warsteiner, which seems to be what this beer alludes to.

S = minimal scent when opened although it smells slightly like skunking, or maybe that's just its traits. Nice malts begin to emerge, then some mild banana. Hints of noble hops.

T = slightly sour and minimally bitter. The sour taste is really off-putting. The bitters seem a bit more than a traditional Pils should have, too. Slight sweetness emerges, and some biscuit. Then grassy finish.

F = feels like they missed the mark on this "imported from Germany" beer.

O = The bottle lists a website that turns out to be "for sale" and pulls up a Budweiser link, which may or may not have anything to do with this beer. Aldi sells this for $5.99 per 6-pack and I would rather put the money into a case of Warsteiner, or better yet a Paulaner et al.

Look: Light gold with a soapy white head that dissolved quickly.

Smell: Lots of grain in the aroma, not much else.

Taste: A little bit more going on here than in the smell. Cereal grains, bready malts, and a pleasant grassy hop finish to top it off.

Mouthfeel: light and watery, very refreshing and easy drinking.

Overall: Not bad, but not amazing either. A highly drinkable beer that's easy on your wallet. Could easily drink a few of these on a hot summer day.

Have had this bier from Aldi's several times over the last couple of years. It has an almost bohemian funky attitude about it. A like me or hate me, I don't care. Just drink me!!! I like it.. and it's bitter/sweet hoppy palate teasing, taste bud exciting yumminess comes through. Enjoy Citizens!!!!

A: The beer is clear light straw yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high bright white head that died down, leaving a collar around the edge of the glass and some lacing down the sides.
S: Light to moderate aromas of bready malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of bready malts along with hints of grassy hops and a slight amount of associated bitterness.
M: It feels a bit more than light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is slightly dry and chalky.
O: This beer is easy to drink, but seems a little too dry on the mouthfeel for the style.

330ml bottle (exp. 08/21/2016), poured in a pilsner glass. Light yellow to straw, with a nice foam that shortly goes down, but doesn't disappear. Good carbonation. Nice aroma that reminds me of fresh grass, and that's not too strong. This grass note is a bit less of a presence on mouth, as the malts are sharing my attention now. Somewhat crispy and light body.

Bought a 6-pack of bottles at ALDI grocery store. Smelled a little skunky when I opened the bottle. Poured into regular pint glass, a clear, light golden color. Taste is pleasant with mild finish, not to dry. Not the greatest German beer I've had by far but is very drinkable.

Bitter, hoppy, almost like an ale. Super foamy head, a minute after opening the bottle the foam came up to the top, just short of spilling over. Light, easy to drink. Smells nothing special. For 6-7 dollars at my local Aldi for a 6-pack I'm not surprised or disappointed.

L- Pours a very white and bubbly head. Clear golden color looks like a macro brew commercial. Has slight lacing.
S- Not much going on, however its a German pilsner an smells accordingly.
T- Wow, nice suprise. Great tasting German pilsner. A nice hop bite with your German funk and keeps lingering. Very crisp, with some biscuit mid taste.
F- Wow. Crisp and refreshing. This would be a great beer to keep on hand to clense the palate. This would be a great lawnmower beer.
O- This blew my mind for a beer my wife found at Aldi's. Aldi is a German company, and they had other beer pretty cheap that I'm going to have to try...that is insane!

i believe this beer gets underrated. Granted it is not the best example of a German pils, but because it is easy to find at my local Aldi, only 6.00 a six pack, it makes it a go to beer for me. Pours clear golden color with a slight head, some lacing. It has an initial bite and slight bitterness on the back of tongue. But, it gets smoother the more you drink. (dont they all) Also, because it is not a high alcohol content, makes a decent session beer. Paired with a grilled smithfield pork sirloin, some spaetlze or some potato gnocchi and a spinach and tomato salad very nice. Good served ice cold on a hot day. (I know some people say germans drink beer "warm" this is absolutely false, they just dont chill beer as cold as americans. Brits drink beer a bit warmer.) Wernesgruner is nice beer for the price.

A: Pours a crystal clear pale to medium yellow in color with moderate to heavy amounts of active visible carbonation and a hint of pale golden yellow highlights. The beer has a half finger tall fizzy white head that reduces to a large patch of mottled thin film covering about 75% of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of sweet bready malts and some light aromas of cereal malts. There is also a light aroma of floral + spicy hops.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of slightly sweet bready and cereal grain malts. That is followed by a light flavor of floral + spicy hops which imparts a light amount of lingering bitterness.

M: Light bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation.

O: Easy to drink and fairly enjoyable though not outstanding. Pairs well with just about any food.

I've seen beer in Aldi before. My wife likes certain products they market so I'm in there the other day with her and look......they sell German beer.
I'd never heard of the brand even though they also produce Bittburger, which is VERY popular there.
Ok, so $6, what the heck.
This beer is surprisingly good, which I sort of did not expect. Not too heavy - which makes it drinkable without the bloat - and it's pretty hoppy and has a semi-dry floral finish.
In short - it's brewed by Germans (they know some stuff), by one of the best brewers in Germany (that can't be a bad thing), it's very refreshing (especially on a warm summer day) and it's priced to go easy on the wallet.

Not too shabby.

Appearance - Pours a finger of bright white head, body is a translucent lite gold, and leaves very light webbed lacing.

Smell - Light breadiness, lightly roasted grains, light corn, and very slight grassiness.

Taste - Much like the nose, there is light roasted malt, some soaked grains and corn, a nice bitter crust flavor, some prominent minerals, and grassy hops into the finish.

Mouthfeel - Lighter side of medium, medium carb is smooth and provides some scrub that accentuates the bitter and grassy hop flavors. Some of bitterness carries long into the finish and gets a bit metallic.

Overall - An okay pils, but gets borderline adjunct flavors. Got this really cheap at Aldi so I thought I'd give this one a try. Would make better mower beer.

Pours crystal clear watery straw color with a surprisingly big white head that eventually settles to a fat film and then a middling one. Decent retention; barely any lacing.

Funky (in the sense of 'weird') and grassy. Oats, green apple, grass. Meh.

Level, smooth drinking. Cereals, stanky European hops, bit of acetaldehyde (I feel), 'mineraliness'.

Light bodied with ample carbonation and a quick dry finish. Very easy drinking. Fine for what it is.

Okay 'cheap' beer.
Drinks easy and quenches your thirst. It is by no means anything special, pretty, or delicious, but it is good after working in the sun. Not the best, mot the worst. Your best option is probably getting it real cold and drinking it from the can with a coozy if you've got one.

Poured into a pilsner a clear dull light to medium golden with a pretty well defined white head that left a few broken chunks of lace as it settled pretty quickly.Sweeter aromas with a mild crispness, more like a sweet cereal aroma more than anything. The sweet cereal grain notes are what you get mainly on the palate with just a light drying leafy hop note in the finish.Eh, pretty average but it goes well with food and is pretty drinkable in an average kind of way.

11.2-oz bottle into Pilsner glass

A - very pale yellow (like a white wine), crystal-clear body; several fingers of pure white foam; small amount of visible carbonation

S - grass, grains, slight note of spice

T - grains, grassy hops, hop spice, slight floral notes; pretty dry, especially into the finish

M - light body with a slight stickiness, moderate carbonation, fairly dry, refreshing

O - a run-of-the-mill pils

This beer is amazing in its ability to be neither great, nor bad. It's middle of the road, to the extreme. Imagine German Bud Light. Except with more mild/bitter hops, maybe saaz? Better dollar for dollar than BMC. apparently abv is 4.9, but seems lower as I just finished a sixxer and am not too buzzed.

Just tried this because it was available at Aldis on my grocery run and I had never tried it. Initially refreshing, nice and light. The aftertaste is a bit strange, almost soapy. I think the appearance was perfectly fine. Poured into a glass the head was light and foamy, not dense. Nothing to write home about but perfectly acceptable.

Purchased from Aldi's for 5.99 for a six pack of 11.2 oz brown bottles. After tax the price comes out to a total of $6.41, or $1.07 per bottle. Best-by-date on back of bottle. Imported from Germany.

Appearance is pale yellow, almost clear, with a foamy head 1 finger thick when poured into a weizen-shaped McDonald's glass. Head disappears rather quickly. The color is an extremely light gold, as if somebody spilled a few ounces of beer into a full glass of water.

Smell is practically nonexistent at first, but after some intense huffing, I could detect notes of grass and grains, not much else.

Taste is okay. Slight bread and apple notes, not much else I can detect. No skunk flavor, though, that's always a plus.

Mouthfeel is light, with little carbonation.

Overall, a tolerable and drinkable beer, mediocre in every imaginable category. However, just because it's imported from Germany, and just because it's got a cool German name, and just because it's relatively cheap, doesn't mean it's an excellent beer. This is a beer that you should always accept if offered one, but not a beer you should actively seek out, there's better beers to be found.

For the price, much better brews can be bought from any grocery store.

500 ml can from LCBo for $2.05 CDN. Poured into a pint glass.

Appearance - Pale gold color with a tremendous 3 fingers of white frothy head. Some bubbles are present. The head lingers for a bit and retains its creamy and frothy appearance until it finally dissipates.

Smell - Light grassy and grainy notes. Not a whole lot else, but exactly what you hope for with beers in the style.

Taste - Clean, crisp, slightly sweet and quite floral tasting. Just enough bite and bitterness from the hops here to make it well balanced. Not a lot else going on but again these flavor combination is pretty good.

Mouthfeel - Light bodied and a bit watery but quite refreshing. Medium-low carbonation.

Overall - A good pils. But wish it was a little heavier bodied. Still one of the better ones out there.
