12 oz bottle bought at aldi for 5.99 a six pack

a- light gold w/ good retaining head

s- smell very very light, cant really smell anuything

t- light very light

m- carbonated water

d- high i guess

ok so I do not understand why a beer like this could have a worthy. I would drink any major marketing beer over something like this. When I bought it I was not expecting it to be good. But this is the beer that people who drink coors would turn away from. Just because it is german and has a hard to pronounce name does not deem this beer worthy. Arguably the worst beer I have ever had.

A- this brew pours so clear its almost like water but with the slightest yellow tint to it. has a white foamy head. leaves little to no lacing.

S- alittle like [email protected] has some fruitiness to it but not too good.

T- this brew tastes like a bud but with a lighter body and slightly fruitier.

M- light bodied. alil crabonated for my liking.

D- my uncle left one and i would never buy this brew.

Overall- if you want a generic crap watered down pilsner like a bud but slightly different this is your brew. i can't get over how clear this brew is. without the slightest hint of yellow it would look like water.

500ml bottle into Guinness pint glass in North Berlin, Germany. Bottle acquired in REWE stores, Berlin. Reviewed live.

A: Half finger thin embarrassingly bad head. No cream. Abysmal retention - maybe six seconds? Transparent clear yellow head. Bleh. Very unappealing.

Sm: Cream and some pleasant barley. A pretty light scent. It's difficult to detect individual notes with me broken nose.

T: Cream and barley. That's it. Even the finish is uninspired and pretty crap. I wanted a better beer. It's quite simple and brewed without care for anything besides profit margins. A sadly disappointing beer. Unbalanced and garbage.

Mf: Smooth and wet, but there is a sharp coarseness to tame the smoothness that feels artificial, unwelcome, and contradictory to the style. Very poorly executed.

Dr: Why did I buy this? The ABV isn't high enough for the beer to even be considered a crap beer. It's just downright not worth it. The price is especially low, but still doesn't justify the poor quality. This is one for ye lads to avoid like the fecking hiv. (Too far?)

Bitter, hoppy, almost like an ale. Super foamy head, a minute after opening the bottle the foam came up to the top, just short of spilling over. Light, easy to drink. Smells nothing special. For 6-7 dollars at my local Aldi for a 6-pack I'm not surprised or disappointed.

500ml can
4.9% ABV

I tried this beer on February 11, 2008 after purchasing from the local LCBO outlet. The beer pours a clear yellow-gold with a thin white head. The aroma is very grainy and not appealing at all. The mouthfeel is medium bodied. The flavour is a combination of malt and grain.

Purchased from Aldi's for 5.99 for a six pack of 11.2 oz brown bottles. After tax the price comes out to a total of $6.41, or $1.07 per bottle. Best-by-date on back of bottle. Imported from Germany.

Appearance is pale yellow, almost clear, with a foamy head 1 finger thick when poured into a weizen-shaped McDonald's glass. Head disappears rather quickly. The color is an extremely light gold, as if somebody spilled a few ounces of beer into a full glass of water.

Smell is practically nonexistent at first, but after some intense huffing, I could detect notes of grass and grains, not much else.

Taste is okay. Slight bread and apple notes, not much else I can detect. No skunk flavor, though, that's always a plus.

Mouthfeel is light, with little carbonation.

Overall, a tolerable and drinkable beer, mediocre in every imaginable category. However, just because it's imported from Germany, and just because it's got a cool German name, and just because it's relatively cheap, doesn't mean it's an excellent beer. This is a beer that you should always accept if offered one, but not a beer you should actively seek out, there's better beers to be found.

For the price, much better brews can be bought from any grocery store.

Can: Poured a light golden color pils with a small bubbly white head with minimal retention. Aroma of faint grassy malt is a bit deceiving. Taste is weaker then expected with some grassy/floral malt which were enjoyable but totally lack crispy hops which could have made this beer interesting. A bit deceiving since I made sure to pick up a can in order to ensure freshness which totally seem to be lacking here.

This beer poured a typical light yellow/gold with big 2 inch frothy head. The head lasted a bit longer than a typical pilsner, which was nice. No evidence of lacing

Smell was bad, very bad. This bottle may have been sitting around too long or something, but this beer was seriously skunked. From what I could tell (beyond the skunkiness), this beer would have a nice mild hop aroma too it.

Taste was not bad but definately nothing to write home about. Light and crisp. Not my preferred style, but drinkable.

A touch too much carbonation made it difficult to do anything but sip this beer, which is not how I prefer to drink a pilsner.

Overall, I would like to try it on tap to see if it gets any better, but I'm not going to spend my hard earned money on any more bottles.

Poured little foam. Pale yellow color.
Aroma of grassy hops, though very faint, with some malt sweetness. Medium carbonation.
In its flavor predominated the malt and its sweetness, followed by grassy hops again and a bitter and mildly dry aftertaste.
Although it had over 7 months to expiration date, there was some metallic hint present, a little oxidized off flavor.

A very strange colour, unlike I have ever seen. Lemony yellow but slightly cloudy, not clear at all. Not sure how this is possible for a Pilsner. Smell was ok, like bread. Very hard to get over the colour. Taste is nothing special. Kind of tasteless, like a light beer or something. Doesn’t feel right but goes down ok.

Really, they should use the colour as some marketing trick because beer (pilsner anyway) should not look like this.

From Alcampo. In Teku glass. After dinner. Watery, with a strong and grassy hoppyness like in a Cruzcampo. A bit better than a Cruzcampo, probably because the lack of adjuncts, but its slight higher quality doesnt justify paying a higher price for it. Nearly no foam and dissapearing quickly. BB Date in 6 months.

Pours a clear golden yellow, big fluffy white head, decent lacing. Smell is sweet, kind of a grainy malt smell, honey, little bit of discernible hops. Taste is very sweet, not very pleasant, it tastes almost skunked except its in a can. Honey sweetness, almost cloying, no hops to be found. Smooth carbonation, light mouthfeel, and not pleasant.

I had this beer after mowing the lawn on a hot day. Pours a pale straw colour with a thin film of head. Smells primarily of grass and barley, with a bit of sour notes as well. Tastes sweet at first with the malts, and finishes with some grassy bitterness. Mouthfeel was thin and dry. It's drinkable after a hot day of mowing the lawn, but I won't be seeking this out again.

The apperance right away left me confused. Is this really a German Pilsner, or some mass produced light beer instead? Light yellow. Smell of very weak hops.

Taste is an improvement, malty but very overcarbonated and with a light body. Hops are definatly bland. Kind of refreshing but a bit dull.

Very much a lame duck when it comes to German Pilseners. It's cheap yes, but so are better beers.

Poured a 500-ml can into a draught glass.

Appearance - poured a light yellow straw colour. Not much head retention, quickly down to surface bubbles.

Smell - corn, veggies and plenty of hops.

Taste - more veggies and a herbal-hop flavour that places the emphasis on bitterness - not well balanced.

Mouthfeel - nothing offensive, average carbonation that balances the bitters.

Drinkability - lots of better options, I'm not put off by this but won't seek it out.

Clear liquid, clarity similar to apple juice but with a distinct lime green hue - seriously. One finger off-white head, some retention and lacing. Low, lazy carbonation surpizingly lasted throughout tasting. Has a bready smell, yeast, dampness, feintly floral. Dry and bitter pilsener taste, finishes quickly and a bit abrupt. Medium body with some hops and a balance, finishing more with malt in the aftertaste. Overall, not a bad tasting pilsener but with a bit too snappy a finish. I can't say I didn't enjoy this beer but I doubt I'll run off and bring some more home, nothing about it makes me want to have another right now.

Excited at finding a few outstanding beers at Aldi's, this popped my balloon.

Poured gently into a pint glass.

L = straw yellow, almost no head but typical Pils white, minimal rimming. Nothing like you'd find on a nice luscious Czech Pils or a Warsteiner, which seems to be what this beer alludes to.

S = minimal scent when opened although it smells slightly like skunking, or maybe that's just its traits. Nice malts begin to emerge, then some mild banana. Hints of noble hops.

T = slightly sour and minimally bitter. The sour taste is really off-putting. The bitters seem a bit more than a traditional Pils should have, too. Slight sweetness emerges, and some biscuit. Then grassy finish.

F = feels like they missed the mark on this "imported from Germany" beer.

O = The bottle lists a website that turns out to be "for sale" and pulls up a Budweiser link, which may or may not have anything to do with this beer. Aldi sells this for $5.99 per 6-pack and I would rather put the money into a case of Warsteiner, or better yet a Paulaner et al.

Pours a light golden colour, with a bright white head that sprouts up and recedes back down almost immediately.

A little bit of lemon. Light malt, creamed corn.

Twangy, light malt, corn. Apple cider. Same as the smell for the most part.

M-Highly carbonated.

I had a special import bottle, bought from a beer cellar and enjoyed at home.

Appearance: Gold / light amber color, large white head (quite impressive), that recedes fairly quickly.

Smell: Hmmm... Not much there, except for some standard lager light maltiness. Slightly metallic.

Taste - Mouthfeel: Surprisingly, things start to get a bit more interesting. Very low carbonation - I can hardly see or feel fizzy bubbles after a while- but I wouldn't call it flat. Rather smooth, with a very small touch of bitterness midway and then a hint of earthy, grassy taste with a dry finish. Perhaps a peppery / grainy feel as well. Medium body.

Drinkability: I would like it a bit more bitter and carbonated to call it a pils but it somehow redeemed itself at the end.

Clear golden yellow color with a large bleach white head that hangs around for a few minutes. Lacing dances down the glass.

Malty pils smell with very little hop balance. There's a moldy grass/hay smell that is almost like bad grains? There are some slight off flavors in the nose that make me want to leave the pint glass on the table for someone else to drink.

Thin malt backbone followed by a weak somewhat unpleasant hoppiness.

Thin beer that's easy enough to pound but not one I'll find again.

Big smell of hops as soon as I cracked the can and poured it up. Moderate head with good staying power, good job of lacing the glass. Very, very pale yellow and quite clear (as opposed to the murky examples cited by other reviewers).

Doesn't taste as big as it smells. Mild hops, mildly bitter finish that lingered for a bit. Quite light actually. Fine as a light summertime quaff I would say, easy, but not especially memorable.

The Wernesgruner is a bit sharp as compared to other Germen Pils. What I mean by sharp, it has a rougher grainy edge. This beer pours a crystal clear pale straw colour, with two fingers of thin puffy, foamy white head, which yields a nice lace. It smells of grain, and muted floral hops. The taste is sharp burst of grain with bitter hops. The mouthfeel is light in body with moderate carbonation. Overall it was a tough Pils.

Sitting in a motel room in Wawa, ON and needed a beer for the football game. This was in singles so I grabbed a couple as nothing else was close to craft-like (except SteamWhistle, but I didn't need 12 beers). Can stamped 'DAT 12/10'. Poured into a plastic water glass as I had nothing else...

The beer pours a ridiculous white head that is tall, thick and beautfiul atop a clean pale gold beer. Laces beautifully, and lasted as a cap for much much longer than expected. The aroma of the beer is decent for a pilsner, with some spicy hop aroma and a bit of vegetal is there too...

The flavour is mediocre. A bit of spicy bitterness which is battling a vegetal flavour. The body is a little thin and too watery. A light unpleasant aftertaste lingers. Carbonation is lower than expected (especially for such a thick head). Drinkable, though not fantastic.

A real nice clear beer with a SRM of about 2. The look of this beer is very clear.

The smell is very low, and the taste is like all the commercial beer found in every liquor store.

The bitterness is more pronounced in this one than other commercial beer.

The IBU would be about 15, and you'll have to pay 2.95 $ (cad) for a 500 ml can.

FROTHY HEAD! That's pretty much the highlight of this one. The smell was semi-skunk, mixed with malt and hops, just like any Euro lager. I've had better Pilsners though. The taste was similar to the smell, but not so much on the skunk. It was mostly a very malty taste, with a hop finish, as well as some very faint citrus fruits. Overall a disappointment. Just chalk it up as another beer review.
