I've been coming here regularly for the past few years now, so it's probably time to write a more recent review.

De Bierkoning is an Amsterdam institution. It is right off the Dam, which is the main square in the city, and is only about a 10 minute walk from the train station. There is no excuse not to go here.

The shop is small and cramped. Beer is stacked everywhere, and it can be relatively difficult to walk around. Put a couple customers in there, and you've got a traffic jam. That said, the store is quite beautiful. Creeky old wood, boxes and bottles stacked all over, and some nice swag hung up around the joint. The beautiful wall of glasses also begs for attention while the guys are ringing up your bottles.

Lots of quality stuff here, with brews from all over the world. Belgium is well represented, of course, and there are often bottles of Westvleteren for 15 EUR a bottle. Plenty of other trappist and abbey beers are here, as well as a few select Struise offerings. The only place where they are a little thin is in their gueuze and lambic selection. There is a little corner downstairs with some standard Cantillon, Drie Fonteinen, Boon, and a few others hanging around, but it is all pretty standard stuff.

The back wall has lots of German lager and weizen, as well as whatever bock is in season. Stop off here for some Andechs if you're looking for some. There is also a pile of brews from smaller Scandinavian breweries. Mikkeller, Amager, Nogne, Evil Twin, Hornbeer, etc., are all here to some extent.

The side wall showcases lots of different bitters and stouts from the UK, and the Dutch part has been growing by the month. De Molen is stacked here, and new Dutch brews seem to be coming out all the time. Breweries like Emelisse, Vat no.13, Schans and Jopen are all getting pretty creative. Very interesting time for the Dutch scene, and this is your one stop place to check them out.

The American craft selection has grown exponentially over the last two years as well. When I first started going there, it was Flying Monkey, Left Hand, Southern Tier, Lost Abbey, Port, Rogue, and a couple others. Since then, we've expanded to include Founders, Dark Horse, Alesmith, Smuttynose, The Bruery, and a host of others. This is great for the beer geek in the low countries, and might be interesting for the American tourist stopping through.

The guys and girls at De Bierkoning do a great job keeping the place in order, and also enjoy a little chat when things aren't busy. They all speak excellent English as well, so feel free to make conversation. Also, Jan likes to trade, either for the shop or for his own enjoyment, so don't forget to bring something in to swap.

De Bierkoning is a must stop for anyone passing through the city, and is more than worth the effort if you live in this part of the world.

Unassuming shop about a block from Dam Square, but once inside the small store boasts an impressive, and somewhat overwhelming, bottle selection. Came in on a very rainy day looking for some de Molen and was not disappointed. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable but did not initiate conversation. They did have an odd selection of American beers, including Intinction from Russian River, which the woman behind the counter mentioned came via a trade. Worth a visit if you're in Amsterdam.

Stopped in on a recent visit to Amsterdam. Definitely a good selection, but not the best bottle shop in Amsterdam. The selection pretty good. Overall, I was underwhelmed. The prices were very high, and the service was non-existent. The guy at the counter didn't say a word to me and I was the only person in the shop. They definitely had some nice lambics (several Cantillon and 3F) and they had Westvleteren. They also had some cool American beers, like Adam from the Wood. Overall, a good place to stop when visiting Amsterdam.

Very fun beer store to visit. They have so many offerings. I recommend trying some new breweries as they carry so many different brands. Very friendly staff too.

Store after visiting in the state of light relaxation, but I will try to evaluate it objectively:
1) Location is just excellent, very easy to find;
2) The appearance of the store - nothing special;
3) The beer choice is very large, I think everyone can yourself to find something interesting;
4) Service bad, the seller was standing behind the counter and did not pay any attention. It is possible to be a closer. I advise you to drive bearded !!!

While I was expecting a great selection of beers from the Netherlands, they had so much more, from seasonal Cantillon, to stouts from The Bruery . Huge selection and friendly service. They even do trade,s from what the worker told me!

So I finally had a few minutes for myself in my last visit to Amsterdam. I knew this was the best store in town. Google Maps, one backpack, and here we go.

The place was a bit small but by having all the walls filled with beer up the ceiling actually became the best store I've ever been to. An awesome selection of dutch beers, belgian beers (european in general) and some US beers but nothing too fancy. This was the moment when I grabbed a beer from North Coast out of a shelve.

In my last steps in the unknown of this store, I saw something I couldn't believe in. Westvleteren beers, right on my front. Being a craft beer addict and knowing this beer from 'day one', this was a moment of truth. Actually, this had been my european whale.

Bought a Westy XII and became very happy. The end.

My favourite in NL. Nice selection, on top of the beers, and all the matching glasses.
