Very Good
Skinny Jeans - Session IPASkinny Jeans - Session IPA
Notes: Back before the “juicy” New England style IPAs were blowing up on Instagram, there was a very hip style of IPA - the West Coast IPA. Very highly attenuated and light on malt, these beers were hopbursting before it was cool. You probably wouldn’t have known about the hops, HBC 369 cv, and YCR 14 cv, they were pretty obscure at the time. Once they became mainstream they were called Mosaic and Simcoe and were much loved for their respective tropical/blueberry/rose blossom and dank/piney/resinous aromatics. This beer wears skinny jeans and jackets in the summer... you know - before it’s cool.

A: The beer is hazy light amber in color. It poured with a quarter finger high off white head that died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of mangos and herbal hops are present in the nose.
T: The taste starts off with flavors of citrus and mangos and quickly transitions over to those of herbal hops, the latter of which linger into the finish. There is a moderate amount fo bitterness and underlying hints of caramel malts.
M: It feels medium-bodied and crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This IPA is nice and crisp and is a good representation of an early West Coast IPA that emphasizes the hops and bitterness.

Pack of cans from the local ABC in Maui.

DFH rounded pint glass. Faintly hazed amber alert, pasty head.

Simcoe cat, resin & a little floral honey.

Sticky, resinous pine flavor turning puthy. Frothy, but moreso goopy once it settles in. Lingering bitterness, dry ashy malt.

Meh.

This brew gets a solid score, higher than any local island IPA.It’s $10 for a sixer in cans and tastes solid. Easily takes the win away from the mainland brews that wash up here. Local and fresh is best, this one’s a winner, needs a higher score too. It has that tropical fruitiness backed perfectly by a caramel malt, evenly balanced, lighter side of bitter, but those hops shine through clearly. Definitely a clean IPA, I’ve had some good local ones that are more dank and leafy, bit this one has a very thirst quenching Mosiac vibe to it. Highly recommended!

Appearance - Pours beautiful clear golden color with nice soapy white head that sticks around for a good while. Strings of spotty lacing all around the glass.

Aroma - Nice citrus rind, orange, very light malt, hit of sweet pineapple.

Taste - Nice bitter citrus peel up front followed quickly by a subtle sweet tangerine and orange. finishes with a bitter grapefruit flavor.

Feel - Lighter than expected, bitterness lingers a bit clean but has a nice dry finish.

Overall - Very nice west coast IPA, great flavors very easy drinking.

12oz can with no apparent date.
Clear, golden IPA with a thick, dense and rocky 1 1/2" head that retains forever. Nice thick lacing.
Pineapple and other tropical aromas. Some Caramel malts in the nose as well. Sulfur?
Not much to it. Bitter beer. Some grapefruit peel.
Not a session IPA at 6% abv.
Over carbonated and a little messy. Not a fan.
