Brewed as an ale and cellared to be clean and crisp, the Kolsch appears simple with its straw color and moderate hop bitterness thanks to the right balance of noble German hops and 2-Row malt making this a great session beer.

I'm a big fan of this style and frankly they nailed it! Clear golden color with a wispy head. Excellent carbonation and mouthfeel. Great malt flavor with just a hint of hop bitterness. Extremely clean finish. They tout this as a perfect lawn mower beer and I couldn't agree more; especially after cutting my grass here in FL on a 95 degree day with 90% humidity. Very well done!

Crooked Can Brewing Co. "Mr. Tractor"
12 fl. oz. can, "18 APR 16
$2.49 @ Knightly Spirits, Orlando, FL

Crooked Can's "Mr. Tractor" pours a clear golden body beneath a creamy head of bright white that holds well and leaves some very nice walls of streaky lace behind.

The aroma is clean, and directly expresses grainy malt with a delicate floral and grassy hoppiness, and a subtle apple-like yeasty fruitiness.

The flavor is as the aroma suggests with the malt dominating, backed by the floral, grassy, and lightly spicy hops and a medium bitterness. It starts lightly sweet, but ends dry with a lingering bitterness and residual hops.

In the mouth it's medium-light in body with a crisp and then smooth median carbonation.

Overall it's a very good interpretation of the Kölsch style that's both satisfying in its malt and hop character, as well as highly drinkable.

12oz can into a pint glass. canned 8/9/16, so 5 months old.

slightly hazy pale yellow body, small white head which dissipates to a ring and covering. very little lacing.

a little earthy on the nose, even a very faint moldiness. nothing else.

on tasting, there is a nice tingly sensation, taste is mild, pleasant, and refreshing. just cant tell what it is i am tasting, but it's good.

just below medium on the mouth, very slightly sour on the finish.

overall, would, as the can suggests, be killer on a hot summers day after yard work. a beer i like, but just cant seem to put my finger on why.

Tasted at the taproom.

Appearance - light/med straw, very clear and nice soapy/lacy head. I would like to see a little tighter head on this style, but very good overall.

Aroma - direct herbal, light grassy notes with light uncooked white flour/cracker aroma.

Taste - light cracker up front with noble style light spice bitterness to follow. Developing a building American style light resinous bitterness that is emphasized by the soapy nature of the head. Pleasant taste, slightly outside of a classic sense but very pleasant American spin off.

Mouthfeel - very crisp and light overall. The mouthfeel is a little light on the carbonation side, but not in any way intense or cloying.

Overall - an excellent "tractor" beer. A little heavier than an American lawnmower kolsch, but overall very refreshing and well executed.

Nice looking, and a seemingly solid example of the style at first, bit there is a soapy bitterness that comes though at the end that seems to be characteristic of this brewery, and that throws off the overall impression.
