It's nice to have an easy drinking porter for a change. It had been a while since I had one that wasn't an over the top Americanized one.
It pours black and opaque with a little head. Mine may be too cold. It has a nice roasty aroma. The taste is a nice burnt malt with just the right amount of bittering hops.
Recommended. A nice change of pace, getting back to the roots.

Nowadays, it takes a lot of courage to make a classic beer style. But the allure of chocolate is just a little too much to get Taft's to stick to a standard Porter. Their chocolate Porter isn't quite a renegade, but its no classic choir boy either.
Pouring a solid dark "bark" brown color, Maverick builds a luscious and airy froth before showcasing a roasty, toasty scent that hinges on cocoa, walnut and coffee. Malty to taste, the early palate shares mild mannered caramel, toffee and sorghum sweetness in a slightly burnt dark sugar display.
As the toasted character of French pressed coffee, roasted nuttiness and baker's chocolate grow along the middle palate, its sweeter impression seem to dissipate rapidly, leaving a drier, sharper, roastier and more bitter character deeper and deeper into the the taste, finally concluding with a burnish, woodsy bitterness with a hint of smoked cocoa.
Medium bodied and drying considerably in finish, the beer's arid roast tilts on the taste of roast in much the same way that Stout will. Its robust and roasty taste even further reinforces this mouthfeel as a long and roasty aftertaste highlights some of the beer's roast-derived astringency.

I got a can of this beer off the single shelf from my local Giant Eagle store . It poured an opaque dark with off white head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had chocolate and molasses notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with chocolate presence. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a good beer.

On tap at the brewery Ale House.
Clear but very dark brown colored body with a good white head.
Lightly sweet, enticing aroma. The flavor is about equally sweet and bitter with nice strong chocolate notes and some coffee. Very good balance.
Smooth medium full body with medium light carbonation.

Aroma is decadent chocolate, dark, fairly sweet.
Flavor is similar, though less sweet and more dark chocolate, with a roasty finish and just a hint of acidity.
