Tasted in a tumbler from draft at Mikerphone Brewing on November 30, 3018. Breakfast stout brewed with coffee, maple syrup and vanilla. Maple syrup is still the dominant flavor here.

Thought the vanilla Imperial Smells Like Bean Spirit was okay. Pretty coffee dominant with a hint of Maple and vanilla. Glad I got to try it on tap but thought the flavors could have been more balanced. I do like the like the body on Mike's stouts and to date his second batch of ISLBS out of Elk Grove has been my favorite.

Had this on draft at Mikerphone.
L: The head was a lighter color than I remember the regular version being.
S: Smells sweet.
T: Coffee is still there, maple is more muted. Vanilla comes at the back end nicely.
F: Thick and works well with the type of beer.
O: I wish I had a regular ISLBS to do a side by side. I think I like them about the same, but there are subtle differences.

On tap at the taproom. Served in a 6oz taster glass. Side by side with the regular Imperial Smells Like Bean Spirit.

Pours a dark black body, half finger offwhite head, good retention, tons of lacing. Smell is an interesting combination that I find to change so much over time. At the taproom, this was served pretty much as cold as possible, so it took a while for this beer to breathe. It initially skewed heavy towards the coffee, with milk chocolate and a touch of smoke; the coffee is more of a brilliant, chocolate-y character, which transitions to a nice sweet maple syrup sweetness that we have come to associate with this beer. The vanilla really shines as it gets to room temperature, not quite marshmallow, but blends in with everything else to provide a distinct sweetness that sets this apart from the regular version. Flavour essentially follows; this builds on a base of milk chocolate, very light char and roast, touch of dark chocolate and cocoa; in the beginning, coffee dominates and it brings you a nice wake up call; fairly roasty with a nice bright bean acidity to it. Maple syrup kicks in not too long after, and it really cuts the coffee nicely, and sets things up for the vanilla sweetness that provides a nice sweet vanilla character as well as a slightly slick mouthfeel and finish to the beer. Mouthfeel is fuller bodied, good carbonation, hefty vanilla on the finish as the beer warms up. I found this to be an interesting adjunct-laden beer full of fun flavours and transitions. It's a slight improvement on the regular Imperial Smells Like Bean Spirit, although that beer has already set the bar so high that it isn't going to blow your mind that much more than it already has, if that makes sense. Super tasty beer from Mikerphone, I look forward to trying more beers from them.

On draft at Mikerphone. Dark, black color with a good bit of creamy/lacy foam head upon pour. Loads of maple in the aroma. The vanilla became more pronounced both in the aroma and taste as it warmed. Maple was probably the most dominant flavor throughout. The coffee however, was quite muted when compared to regular imperial beat spirit. Mouthfeel was medium.

Overall, a quality beer. But if you prefer coffee flavors, the regular Imperial Smells Like Bean Spirit will deliver more.

This is beer is unreal. Jet black pour, very little head retention with slight lacing along the glass. On draft at the release. Initially very coffee forward while it's cold. Nose is velvet vanilla and slight maple. As it warmed good maple presence followed by heavy vanilla at close to room temp. The melding of the flavors is what makes this beer excellent. Definitely let this beer warm up to experience its full potential. I'll be letting a few sit to see how the flavors change
