Imperial Smells Like Bean Spirit - Bourbon Barrel-Aged

Look - Pours a super dark brown/black color with a small brown head that quickly disappears.

Smell - Bourbon, whiskey, cacao, espresso, and molasses.

Taste - Bourbon, whiskey, cacao, espresso, and molasses.

Feel - Smooth, creamy, and easy drinking for a 14.24%ABV stout.

Overall - A decent coffee stout. But I'm generally not a big fan of whiskey aged stouts.

Sampled in a taster glass from draft at Mikerphone Brewing on May 17, 2019. Look is dark brown with a thin tan head and sticky lacing. Notes of maple syrup, coffee and bourbon. Feel is full in body.

 

 

2018 version drank on 8/17/19. Enormously complex, bringing notes of vanilla, marshmallow, coconut, nougat, caramel, chocolate milkshake, milk chocolate, charred oak, dark chocolate, maple, gourmet coffee, slight tobacco, roasted malt, and smooth bourbon. The coffee and maple are still there, but they have subsided and have allowed the chocolaty base beer to interplay with the complex barrel. Chocolate chip pancakes covered in maple syrup with a side of coffee comes to mind. Really impressive.

12 oz. bottle. Black body. Smells of sweet maple, coffee, bourbon, and some sweet chocolate. Tastes of strong bourbon and coffee. Roasted malt. Oak. Vanilla. Lingering maple sweetness. Boozy, but not hard to drink. Very tasty. Maple is hefty, but it isn't that sweet.
