Purchased at Buster’s liquor in Memphis TN. This is my last can of the 4 and its dated 10/23/20 and enjoyed in a snifter on 2/20/21
A: Pours a dark brown but looks black in the glass and has a half inch of khaki foam and it is a bit delayed and foams up after pouring. Short retention time but nice lacing on the glass as the foam dissipates.
S: Strong notes of coffee and smells bitter, the can says Blue Heron Coffee and I don’t know what that type of coffee smells like, but it is definitely unique and a bit more earthy and bitter. Also has a sharp vanilla smell with more subtle aromas of wood and oak. Malts give a roasty and a bit of a smoky aromas as the beer warms.
T: Taste is dominated by coffee with a bit of bitterness but its true to an oatmeal stout and is very creamy and smooth. After-taste is bit earthy combined with the roasty notes from the coffee and I still get a smoky feeling in my mouth which is my only negative comment about the beer
F: By far the best category of this beer. As soon as it enters my mouth just covers my tastebuds in this velvety coffee goodness. This beer is so creamy and well balanced. Carbonation is minimal and abv is well hidden.
Overall this beer is outstanding and very unique in the aromas and taste of the Blue Heron coffee (whatever that is). I’m glad I tried it but at $20 for a 4 pack of 16oz cans it’s a bit pricey and I think I would rather go to a cheaper better option like the Founder’s breakfast stout.

16 oz can at share. Dark brown pour, light head fades to flat. Light coffee in the aroma, light sweetness. Taste also comes in sweet, then bitter, coffee. Solid.

Dull brownish-black with an uneven, creamy tan film.

Creamy milky coffee and a light nutty roast are dashed with a little charred brown sugar.

The medium body has a filling fizz and finishes semi-wet.

Had trouble pinning down my ratings on this one. Taste was the worst aspect for me, which is a rarity. Still an excellent brew. I hope to have this again in the future...as my first beer of the night. :)

16 oz. can from De Bierkoning (a one off for now, but I think we'll be getting more Bearded Iris soon in NL). Upon opening the can the foam gushes out, though not in a terrible way. Pours a black colour with no head. There are particles floating around, possibly yeast. Lots of coffee roast in the aroma with vanilla and chocolatey sweetness to a lesser extent. Retronasal there's coffee, some sourness (that you often get with coffee stouts), vanilla, a bit lactose sweetness. Flavour is rather sweet but with some bitterness from the roast and chocolate to balance it out. Medium bodied. Good carbonation. Long finish, roasted, chocolatey, coffee-ish, moderate bitter. Quite a treat.

Poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a nice semi-thick black/brown color with a stifled small off-white foamy head quickly falling off. Barely lace.
The aroma had a deep earthy coffee bean to slightly acidic character. Slight dark chocolate with a touch of milk chocolate. Subtle fudge/creamy cake in the background.
The flavor seemed to mesh between a sweet roastiness and a kind earthy character. Slight earthy to toasty sweet chocolatey aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Moderate acidic coffee bean conveys a slight sharpness but not burdensome. Good carbonation and ABV. Finish was semi-dry with a slight roast and moderate creaminess.
Overall, a very nice imperial stout well worthy of having again.
