Very Good

Notes:
Cypher is a touch enigmatic, but all about the interplay of 2-row, brown, caramel and chocolate malts. This small and dynamic porter expertly crafts encoded notes of toasty toasty baker’s chocolate, brownie crust and warm candied sugar.

I know its a porter but I think its just a touch watery on the finish and kinda thin bodied ... Very long lasting ever changing flavor profile tho ..
If it weren't for the watery finish I would give this beer A+.

Thanks goes out to Buck89 for this brew.
16 oz. Can
Canned On: 10/22/18
ABV: 4.6%
Poured into a Tree House glass a pretty nice dark brown/black color, pretty nice carbonation, with a really nice thick/creamy two-finger tan head, which also leaves a nice medium size oil slick, and some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, with some pretty nice chocolate/toffee, vanilla, nice roastyness. The taste is pretty nice, malty, with some pretty nice chocolate/toffee notes, nice roasty, nice vanilla note, nice little sweetness. Medium body, ABV is hidden very nicely, nice little dry/bitter finish. Overall, a pretty tasty brew. Something different from BI. Thanks John!

You would think that if Bearded Iris decided to tackle a standard American porter that it would be a hazy porter with a juicy hop profile. But it reveals that this style is basically kryptonite to the brewer's hop dominant superpowers.
Pouring a dark brown color and layered with a soft lathery blanket, Cypher follows with a coffee leading scent with cocoa, nuttiness with a sorghum hearty sweet scent. Sweetness glosses over the tongue with a light molasses, horehound, buckwheat honey likeness.
The porter quickly develops a toasty, nearly roasty dryness on the middle palate as the sweetness shows rapid recession. Bittersweet chocolate carries a high cocoa content character along with dark roast coffee, walnut and a gentle sprucy smokiness. Late bitterness pulls from the coffee and cocoa-like flavor and into a hoppy, woodsy, spicy late palate.
Medium bodied and showing remarkable dryness, the beer is surprisingly refreshing despite its robust taste, scent and malty overcasts. A spice of coffee liquor extends into a medium long aftertaste with an arid char substrate.
