Notes: Our latest pilsner blends Perle + Hallertau Blanc + Nelson into an uplifting conversation of bright key lime, sparkling white grape cider, and overripe passion fruit. We can all use a PEP TALK now and then, can't we?

Wow, an 83. I didn't look at this ahead of time before splurging on a 4 pack. We'll see if it's warranted.
16 oz can, snapped off from a spicy little 4 pack, dated 9/3/20, purchased at Frugal MacDoogal's in NashTenn.
Bearded Iris Teku.

Has a foggy, hazy blonde, with a creamy cap of 3 fingers. Lands at about 1 finger, with lots of wonderful lace up the sides.

Aroma is a great mix of straw-like malts and both old-world European hops and new-world American hops. At first sniff it's nothing spectacular, but the more I agitate it, the more I get. Some citrus, hay, pear, lime, tangerine, white grapefruit, pineapple, and muscat. It all comes together to form a honey-kissed white wine oak bouquet. This is actually very very impressive. Probably the most complex bouquet in a pilsner I've encountered.

The flavor brings red grapefruit, then pilsner malt, cracker, hay, blood orange, and honeyed malt. Some additional notes of muscat, lemon, and tangerine surface. On the back palate it's a bit like a tasty tangerine seltzer with white wine notes. It has a pretty hefty amount of grass and pine as well, leaning more on the bitter side, perhaps rivaling some pale ales from the west coast. I will admit for a pilsner it is a bit too bitter.

Feel is heavily carbonated, semi-clean, with some moderate cling and a dry, crisp finish. No alcohol heat.

Overall, a crafty and tasty pilsner with a couple caveats - the bitterness and carbonation are a bit much. It is a dry, crispy pilsner with some interesting white wine notes but has a real big west coast pine thing going on as well. I think I'd probably pass it up next time as I'd rather spend an extra $5 to nab a double IPA from them instead. This was a nice trial though, and definitely better than the "83" it has. It's just a testament to how good the beer is in the east - this one stands under some tall shadows.

Poured into a snifter glass. Slightly hazy look with a yellow-straw color and a thick white head that slowly settled. Nice lacing in the glass. The aroma was floral, spicy, and earthy with a hint of citrus and faint bready malt. The taste showcased the clean Pilsner malt with a bready and slightly sweet flavor. The bitterness was moderate and maybe a touch less than other German Pilsners that I've enjoyed. Definitely more fruity in character than floral. The Nelson is there providing white wine and a faint dankness, and the passion fruit was also there but really subtle. Overall a well-constructed beer but the hop profile was not as flavorful as I expected.

This is the perfect modern interpretation of a Pils. Clean lager look and mouth feel, but with a phenomenal hop character (old world floral, with new age fruity/lemon/white wine hops as well). The hops are not over powering, like a Pils should be. This is one beer that can please your non-craft and hop head friends both. I’m going on a limb here and saying it is the BEST Pils you’ve ever tasted. This one stays in my fridge all the time.

On draft at a brunch restaurant, glass a bit cold to begin with/still dealing with a cold

L: straw gold and clear, highly carbonated decently thick white head

S: piney/floral, some citrus notes

T: piney/floral, bit sharp on the finish

F: well carbonated, crisp body a bit smoother than I expected

O: solid pils for sure, look and feel there. Happy to see it on the menu, not looking to stock up
