Style: Saison / Farmhouse Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.10%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Allagash Saison is our interpretation of a classic Belgian farmhouse style. It is a golden hued beer, brewed with a 2-Row blend, malted rye, oats and dark Belgian candi sugar. Saison is hopped with Tettnang, Bravo and Cascade hops. Fermented with a traditional saison yeast strain, Saison exhibits notes of spice and tropical fruit in the aroma. Citrus and a peppery spice dominate the flavor and make way for a pleasant malt character. Saison is full bodied with a remarkably dry finish.

Orange in colo . Big frothy head
Smell of yeast. Orange. Orange peel. Cracker. The taste is the same as the smell. Fruity yeast. Feel is light. Effervescent.

Pours a hazy, even slightly cloudy straw color with lots of carbonation and a creamy white head. Lots of lace.
The aroma is citrus and tropical fruit, hay, spice and funk.
Tasty brew with a shot of bitterness and funk followed by juicy citrus and tropical fruits with a hit of crisp spice.
A light lingering bitter note and a dry, refreshing finish.
Mouthfeel is medium and bubbly.
Quite good.

Saison pours clear, small white head. Has the nose and aroma of a European farmyard ale, taste is a bit light and subdued.. Decent but not outstanding (but pretty darn close)

DATE TASTED: December 11, 2015 ... GLASSWARE: La fin du Monde tulip... OCCASION: prepping for our first Quiz Bowl competition at Leonia tomorrow... APPEARANCE: spritzy, quite hazy sallow golden body; three-finger head slips quickly into a pillowy, single-finger snow-white crown of varying thickness; artistic rings form as lacing as the glass drains... AROMA: beautiful candied sugars allure from the start; lemon, mango and pepper add to the invitation; slight clove and banana suggests yeasty funk that straddles the weizen arena... PALATE: textured, medium-bodied, frothy and active early; grainy but dry at the finish, as expected--quite drinkable... TASTE: pepper and clove work early and satisfy; the mango and lemon are bright and clear, flirting with the bitterness of an IPA but keeping with the funky weizen qualities... OVERALL: a fresh, full-flavored experience, with a light malt profile that allows for an easy-drinking, sessionable ale....

Yellow, yeasty, very little head. Slightly thin tasting, spicy. Not bad, not their best.

Poured in an Allagash chalice.
The has a nice white and creamy head while the beer itself is a clear pale gold color that is pretty nice to look at.

The smell is nice and rustic if not a bit light. The main notes seem to be a lightly citrusy hop note and bready yeast note with some nice esthers as well. The rye note definitely comes out but also has a bit of sweet oat to soften it.

The taste is good and almost as good as the smell. The rye and oat notes come out fairly well to give a rustic impression while the hops and yeast provide the traditional yeast and bitter citrus notes.

The feel is good and very smooth especially for the style. The finish is semi-dry and not as dry as other saisons. The carbonation is also pretty weak but still good enough.

Overall,a pretty good saison overall and a much more complex one than available in the market. The only downside is that it seems to get better as it warms up. Go for it and recommended.
