Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
A dark sour, aged for 2 years in oak and an additional 2 years in stainless with 1.2 lbs of local currants per gallon. Currant Affair had a mixed fermentation with Brettanomyces, Lactobacillus and a traditional ale yeast. Deep red with raisin, chocolate and sour cherries in the aroma, it’s tart and spicy with complex flavors of stone fruit and brown sugar. Look for this on draft at a specialty event near you.

Had this right after Monmouth Red and was really disappointing. This had none of the tartness I would expect from a beer with currants

@ The Answer

Dark mahogany with a thin, creamy head sticking to the surface. A variety of berries and some woody spice suggests something along the lines of a Flanders sour. Dusty grapes, flowers, and chocolate. Taste is woody upfront with a moderate acetic sour quality. Cherries, grapes, and berries blend with an earthy pepper edge and subtle dark chocolate malts. Dry, slick, and sour in the mouth. Good stuff overall – just a little overly edgy like other Allagash sour reds I've had.
