Here's one that's been looking at me for a long time. Not 100% certain on where it came from but thanks!! Split w the mrs...

Surprised that this was dark sour...soft fruit and acetone over a Belgian dark sour. Nicer than most noir sours but still nothing to write home about. Not the kind of thing I'd seek out, bit for the fans of dark sours...well made.

Thanks to angrybabboon for sharing the bottle.

Appearance: Medium brown that hits darker in the glass. Head is pillowy and creamy dark khaki with decent retention. Drops to a small cap and collar with some small splotches of lacing. Moderate to high carbonation on the pour.

Smell: Acetic. Vinegar with a touch of blood orange in the back. Ever so slightly zesty. Deep notes of chocolate and cocoa with some slight baker's chocolate and nib thrown in the back A touch of something that hints at coffee. Blend of lactic and acetic tartness. Solid oaky presence. Slightly damp and earthy with a ton of wet wood. Yeast has some solid spicy esters with a slight backing fruitiness. Hints of clove. Some balsamic vinegar as well. Some Some alcohol laced through the back as well. A touch of roasted sweetness. Soft grassy element. Hints of apple and pear in the back as well. As it warms the hints of blood orange drops out almost entirely. Generic citrus reads as grapefruit.

Taste: Allagash "sour" mix all the way. Solidly acetic with a soft lactic and citric backing. Deeply roasted and almost charred a touch. Big chocolate with a ton of cocoa and baker's chocolate. Some lemon zest on the initial sip. Some balsamic vinegar that amps up a touch as it warms. Some clove spiciness runs through the back with a touch of apple. A hint of coffee bean thrown in the back. Lightly floral. Tart cherry skin with some worn leather. A ghost of citrus zest. Some grapefruit with the slimmest hint of blood orange underneath it. Some lime. Alcohol rolls through the back.

Mouthfeel: Medium body that thins out just a touch thanks to the barrel. Moderate carbonation with a solid lingering astringency. Clean.

Overall: Hey, they do dark beer too!

A sour porter/stout is really tough to nail, but Allagash does it with their typical approach. The bug blend adds a nice tart character over the roasted base. Well balanced with the bitter malts adding a balance to typical "sour" profile.

Split with Goblinmunkey7, 9/27/15

A: The corks pops with some serious aggression, but it's not a gusher - pours dark brown, with some clarity and a fluffy, medium-sized, beige head, fades to a fluffy cap, leaves some streaks of lacing

S: Chocolate and some sharp citrus - chocolate malts, with some burnt grains - dark chocolate and some baker's chocolate - the blood orange is mostly muted, but, at the very least, the citrus is definitely there - some Belgian yeast with some spice and banana esters - funk and tartness - musty and lightly damp - lots of oak, nicely aged with some oak and light acetone

T: Citrus and chocolate, always a nice combo - nice porter base, with some chocolate malts, cooked malts, caramel malts, caramelized malts, cooked sugar -some lightly sweet chocolate - light, but definite blood orange, with some nice orange flesh with a hint of raspberry - some nice funk and tart - lactic, musty basement, damp cellar - not exactly what I would describe as sour - woody finish with some booze

M: On the light side of medium, smooth but lightly oily, nicely carbonated, finish could be cleaner

O: I can't see it, but I can taste it

I've pretty much given up on sour stouts, as I apparently do not like the style. But funky, lightly sour porters? Sure! I would like more citrus in this, but the amount here is nicely subtle. If I ever see this again, I'll probably pick up another. I'm curious to see what happens to my other bottle in a few years.

Cracked this bottle open with my brother. Off the nose, a nice tart, mild funky aroma. When swishing the beer in the tulip, minimal legs seen, so the body was not very heavy, which I was expecting given the ABV and type of beer. Taste- a nice funk, not too sour with a mild bitterness and citrus, sweet notes on the back end. The mouthfeel was a bit on the thin side. This wasn't something I was trying to go too hard to obtain and got lucky to fall upon a bottle, but it was great for what I was expecting. Cheers.

Thanks to Andy for sharing.

Decent fizzy fluffy head, nice lacing, dark murky brown color.

Nose brings nice sour funk, generic sour mash and bugs, acidic, malt vinegar. Mild creamy dark malt, nothing they promised.

Taste sour porter, sour funk malt, wild yeasty funk, like an infected porter, wild funk wild acidity, tangy, dark chalky porter. No orange.

Mouth is med bod, Dec carb, little sour feel.

Thanks to Andy for sharing.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown almost with a thin mocha head that fades to leave light wisps.

S - Aromas of light chocolate, almost non-existent. No orange, just a generic sour mash.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, lots of sour tartness, acidic vinegar, light chocolate malts, no real blood orange either. No wine notes either...Just tastes like a sour porter.

M - Mouthfeel is explosive on the tongue, really too carbonated.

O - Overall this beer was a complete mess. No blood orange, no chocolate malts, no wine barrels (how'd they pull that one off, a fifth fill barrel?)...uhhh...how is that all possible? By leaps and bounds the most confusing and sad faced Allagash beers I've ever had. Completely blindsided by this.
