Style: Tripel

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
First brewed back in 2004, Curieux was our first foray into barrel aging. To make Curieux, we take our Tripel and let it age in bourbon barrels for seven weeks. Once that time is up, we take the beer out of our cold cellars and blend it back with a portion of fresh Tripel. The resulting rich, golden ale features smooth notes of coconut, vanilla, and a hint of bourbon.

Pours a lovely, slightly cloudy amber with copious white head. Smell is vanilla, tropical fruits, yeast. Taste is sweet malts forward , hint of bourbon, vanilla, pineapple, with a yeasty, sweet finish. Medium bodied- string carbonation- provides some astringency and keeps the from becoming cloying and a clean finish.
Overall- they took the excellent tripel and made it better- great job- a little pricey- but a taster beer for a special occasion

Hazy burnt straw with a mild creamy white head that leaves some thin, curvy arms of lace.

Nose is bringing banana, apple, light toffee, grass and char with taste kicking up the bourbon, adding wood, banana, phenolic spice, and sharp apple.

Slightly acidic but frothily carbonated with a dry finish.

Nice little pop, hazy amber with a impressive white foamy head. Aromas of banana, pear & spices. Slightly salty, a hint of sweetness, bread, grains, bourbon & vanilla. Very mild & pleasant. Not much sign of the 11%. Nice feel. An excellent brew, the perfect ale for my birthday.

Beautiful beer. Light in color, thick fluffy head with subtle notes of vanilla and a warming though not overpowering presence of bourbon. Bottle notes say that the taste contains soft coconut notes also. Frankly I did not taste this but no matter. The 11% ABV is certainly present in the taste but again this beer is so wonderfully balanced, something that I cannot echo for a lot of the other barrel aged brews out there, that the mouthfeel ends up being nothing other than warm and inviting.

Curieux may be a touch pricey and I am shy to recommend pricey brews because there is in my mind nothing worse than paying top dollar for average fare but this one hits the proper heights. Kudos to Allagash.

Nothing like their Tripel. This is fantastic. By the way, I like their Tripel too. I can't get this in my state, but I'm still going to get it. This brew is so subdued, it has so much depth. I love this. My favorite American beer. I can't explain, I'm not so good at qualifying, but I love this.

Good orange hue. At first the aroma was similar to a triple but then fruit, sugar, bourbon, and definitely alcohol comes through.Taste follows aroma almost identically but with a strong warm effect from the alcohol. A really well made beer that is unique with a lot of complex flavors. I personally think it was overdone as the tripel aspects of this beer were excellent and barreling it added flavors that didn't need to be added. Don't get me wrong , I would try it again it just wasn't my favorite
