Style: Tripel

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
First brewed back in 2004, Curieux was our first foray into barrel aging. To make Curieux, we take our Tripel and let it age in bourbon barrels for seven weeks. Once that time is up, we take the beer out of our cold cellars and blend it back with a portion of fresh Tripel. The resulting rich, golden ale features smooth notes of coconut, vanilla, and a hint of bourbon.

On-tap @ Copper Mine Pub in North Arlington, NJ.

Served in a Chimay chalice. Hazy, dark gold in color, and a small white head. Lots of caramel and vanilla in the nose. Very sweet and warming flavor. A little bit of heat from the bourbon which counteracts nicely with the sweetness. Medium bodied but bold. Definitely a sipper.

I've had this beer many times over the years but have been hesitant to buy a bottle due to the increase in price. It's probably the first barrel aged beer I had years ago. It was a treat to have on-tap and affordable as well. Great stuff!

Had this one a couple of times over the past few months. It's a good one. Tripels aren't really my "thing," but I can see why this one is rated so highly.

Sweet, slightly boozy, crisp and possessing an interesting complexity, Curieux is a winner. I'm thinking 4.25+.
