On tap at the Harvest Bar in Bethel, ME - 11 oz pour - $6.50. A fairly hazy pour of dirty-orange color with about a finger of fine head that dissipates to just a ring. Nice aromas of fruit and yeast. Mellow fruity flavors with a hint of vanilla and oak. A nice balance but hard to really describe. Mouthfeel is soft and medium-full bodied with not a lot of carbonation. Overall, a very interesting saison at a great price.

Finally got around to enjoying this beer about six months after being gifted it from a friend; stored appropriately throughout. Like all of Allagash's specialty beers this one is unique, tasty and very complex.

Poured a straw-gold with a lively stream of bubbles reaching up to the moderate puffy white head. Effervescent and vivacious.

Aroma was hard to place; not sure if that's the aquavit barrel or what, although I wouldn't be able to say regardless since I've never encountered this libation. I picked up green apple, oak, grape must and a light menthol-mint.

Lightly tart - with elements of green apple and lemon - followed by an herbal grassiness and moderate funkiness. I wasn't picking up much citrus. Seemed to have a light vanilla kicker at the end once the beer warmed up. Very pleasant ending to each sip.

Tart, a little spicy, floral and grassy - funky beer that's enjoyable throughout.

On the pour, the head was pretty short, and ended up being a ring constantly fed from the bottom of the glass. The color was a fairly rich gold, ever so slightly cloudy.

The smell opens with bread crust and a pretty hefty hit of funk. Then some citrus floats in that is more orange or tangerine, and as the beer warms notes of licorice emerge that remind me more of fennel than anise.

The initial taste was intensely sour and I wondered what I had gotten into. The second sip opened up some very pleasant sweetness and the fennel flavor. Some peach or apricot flavor makes a surprise guest appearance. The tartness really tames itself amazingly well, falling into a Granny Smith type apple flavor at the end. Spice and licorice linger and ramp up as the beer warms. It becomes black peppery on the finish.

The bottom line is I dig it, it makes my mouth happy. I actually like the flavor morphing Power Ranger thing Allagash achieves sometimes. A good beer, but not my favorite rendering on this theme from Allagash.
