Brewed by:
Allagash Brewing Company
Maine, United States

Style: Saison / Farmhouse Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 10.60%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Two yeast strains were used to create this unique Belgian-style ale. The first, a Saison yeast, establishes the flavor foundations of a classic Belgian-style ale. The second, our house strain of Brettanomyces yeast, contributes myriad flavors including pear, apricot, graham cracker, and bread crust. A portion of Interlude is aged in red wine barrels, which imparts a distinctive vinous, plum character and a dry, almost tannic, finish.

Pours hazy dark golden in cool or with a thin fizzy off white head. Smell has a tart brett aroma With notes of white wine, apples, pears, hay, and some sweet malt. Taste is brett forward with earthy notes of barnyard, straw, and must along with a very faintly tart acidity and flavor of lemongrass. Light wine barrel, malt and peppercorn presence in the finish. Lots of dry brett and Belgian yeast meld with high amounts if carbonation, faintly tart acidity, and tannins to leave an overall well balanced beer

A: Pours a cloudy orange-yellow with a small white head.

S: Sour, salt, citrus, notes from the Brett.

T: Sour vinous notes, oak, and slightly fruity brett.

M: Mild-Medium-bodied with light carbonation.

O: Solid sour offering from Allagash, worth a repeat and a pause.

A-Pours a pretty, amber color. Thin, white head doesn't fade away too much. It leaves minimal lacing,

S-Aroma is relatively soft but it's pleasant. Wild tartness is the first thing I notice. Musty and funky. Some pale-fleshed fruits and hay.

T-The flavor is even better. The tartness is amped up. A light lick of oak. The fruitiness and barny flavors are also more intense. Underripe fruit and zesty yeast. Brett flavors. Also some wine notes. A very wild Saison.

M-ABV hidden well. The carbonation really lifts the body up. It's sneakily drinkable. Lingering tartness. Tannic in some essences.

O/D-I really enjoyed this beer. Allagash makes some killer brews and this one is no different. Happy to have grabbed a pint of this. A bottle is it a bit too pricey. I was however, very happy with a pint of this wild Saison.
