Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.80%

Notes / Commercial Description:
Hugh Malone begins with a grain bill featuring a blend of Maine grown barley, imported Pilsner, and raw wheat malt. At the beginning of run off, we add a portion of hops to the sweet wort in the kettle; a technique known as "first wort hopping". As the boil begins, a generous amount of Chinook hops are added for bittering. Later, in the whirlpool, the beer is hopped with a blend of Centennial and Amarillo, for aroma. This same blend is used, post fermentation, to lend additional hop character to the finished beer. The result is a complex brew with a malty palate, intense hop aromas, pronounced bitterness and a pleasantly dry finish.

Bottle from a Lazy dog.
Pours a hazy deep yellow color with a good sized frothy white head. Peppery earthy spice with lemony citrus on the nose and a hint of sweet bread underneath. Sweet bread and pine and citrus with a hint of earth and pepper in the flavor. Pretty tasty beer, I can't believe it took me so long to try this, and I'm loving the 12oz bottles.

12 oz bottle poured into wine glass bottled on 7/20

A: Tiny bubbled white head. Body is a yellowish gold with slight cloudiness.

S: Smells resiny with light hints of pineapple and grapefruit peel

T: Lots of coriander, banana, clove, light floral hoppiness and herbal flavors shine through

M: Creamy with a little heavier than average body for an IPA.

O: Never been a huge Belgian IPA fan, but this one isn't bad. The hops help cut the banana, clove, and bubble gum flavors of the yeast. It is interesting that I smell fruitiness from the hops but they don't translate into the taste. The taste is more floral and herbal.

On tap at Cloverleaf Tavern. Pours a hazy, golden hue with moderate frothing. Aroma is slightly piney with a grapefruit zest bursting through. Similar flavor with slight hints of tropics and pine. Flavor is pronounced but not outstanding. Decent.

Pours a clear, reddish-orange and crowned with a tall and resilient off-white froth. Citrus, lemon and white grape in the aroma and not much else. Sweet up front and some more citrus hops following. Light and dry and no alcohol heat to speak of.

Can't knock it, and seems to style (for what that's worth), but just not my cup o' IPA.

Drank out of the bottle. Has the Belgian flavor to it, not sure what that's called. Medium body. It tastes more like a Belgian than an IPA really.
