Style: Belgian Strong Pale Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Victor Ale was inspired by its feminine-named predecessor, the Victoria Ale. With chardonnay grapes to make the Victoria Ale unique, our brewers decided to use red grapes for the Victor. Over one hundred pounds of cabernet franc grapes were crushed on site and added directly to the mash. In addition to a generous portion of Pilsner malt, Victor is hopped with Fuggles and Hallertau and fermented with a wine yeast strain. With a focus on the subtle wine-like character of the grapes, the 9.0% ABV brew maintains a copper color, wine yeast influence and a medium body with a tart and spicy finish.

On-tap 7/9/13 at Track 84 in Warwick, RI, served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a light brown color, with a thin off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains Belgian yeast, caramelized malts, apples, grapes, brown sugar and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out very sweet with flavors of caramel, grapes, apples, brown sugar. Then some mild breadiness comes in from some mildly wild Belgian yeast and a hearty but not too heavy malt character. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, light-to-medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while if you’re into beers with wine-like attributes.

On tap at Cask and Vine while enjoying the company of Todd the Hoople.
Lightly hazy deep straw with hints of purple. Fruity earthy spicy aromas and flavor with a bit of a jelly or jam edge to it. Interesting brew a bit outside of the box, not something I'd have often but glad I got to try it.
