Style: Belgian Strong Pale Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Victor Ale was inspired by its feminine-named predecessor, the Victoria Ale. With chardonnay grapes to make the Victoria Ale unique, our brewers decided to use red grapes for the Victor. Over one hundred pounds of cabernet franc grapes were crushed on site and added directly to the mash. In addition to a generous portion of Pilsner malt, Victor is hopped with Fuggles and Hallertau and fermented with a wine yeast strain. With a focus on the subtle wine-like character of the grapes, the 9.0% ABV brew maintains a copper color, wine yeast influence and a medium body with a tart and spicy finish.

Pale peach colored brew; nice off-white head with pinkish highlights and very good retention.

Grapes dominate the aroma, with tart and funk notes. This translates well to the palate, which mingles grapes with the alcohol. A very light funkiness throughout, but the priority is the grape flavor which, while being dominant, never approaches grape soda or juice.

Fairly lively and smooth feel.

The color of Victor was the first hint of the red grapes present in this beer. The beer poured a slightly reddish off white with a fluffy white head. The red is easily seen as the beer is not clear and just a touch hazy.

Smell is very "Allagash" to my nose, Belgian yeasts, fruits, breads and there is a more dominant smell of grape naturally.

Taste has grapes moving forward, but the standard tastes of a Belgian ale...yeasts, spices, fruits and breads. This beer tastes milder than many of the BSPAs one might have, and the grapes are likely what does that.

Feel is astringent at the end, and is the only 'weak' point on this beer for me.

All in all a nice beer, I had this one before Victoria, so I am looking forward to comparing the two.

Poured out of a 750 ml into a tulip. Smells deliciously yeasty. Tastes like a Trippel with a slight sweet grape taste. Well crafted beer from one of the truest brewers of Belgians beers. Fans of Belgian beers should like this one but not likely to blow anyone's mind.

On tap - wonderful peppery yeast smell. Great yeast flavor with some bready notes. The wine kicks in a bit in the finish though it is subtle. Great with my meal!

On tap.
Light golden body with effervescent carbonation.
Lightly tart with what seems like just the right amount of white grape flavor and aroma to go with the light malt base.
