Brewed with Belgian Pilsner Malt and 25% Rye malt, the beer is full-bodied with a spicy, herbal taste. A floral note arises with the addition of Yarrow, which is a flowering plant that was historically used as an alternative to hops. The beer is hopped with Warrior and Brewers Gold which impart a subtle bitterness.

Pours a dull slightly opaque orange color with a decent white head. Floral and citrus nose. The flavor is slightly sweet with some citrus. Medium bodied and slightly bitter. There is a slightly disorienting acidic and alcoholic flavor as well. That part is not great but could mellow out with age. The subtle back flavors and aspects are still worth it though.

Happened upon this bottle at mountview plaza, last week. I didn't realize it was the 07 until today HALFWAY through drinking it. Pure gold!
A. Pours a rosy gold; a coppery hue with just a little haze and a slight orange-pink tint. A thin head rapidly fades into a placid, clean surface.
S. The aroma is incredible: a sort of a belgian barlwine. Spice is strong, but a deep malt comes through and tends to dominate in the form of ripe raisins, molasses.
T,M. A huge spicy flavor stuns the tongue. There is only a mild cloying sugaryness, paired with a complex white wine alcohol bite. Its big alcohol isn't hidden, but isn't raging. Its soft and palattable. It has a bright and dry entry, but a thick departure. It is much less carbonated and heady than I hoped, but then again it is from 2007.
O. After being amazed by its brilliance, I looked up this beer on BA and now feel even more blessed to have had it. Snatch it up if you find it.

Courtesy of stevefinny.
A: golden yellow with just a hint of carbonation.
S: very nice Yarrow spice and sweetness, maybe a little fruity undertones.
T: creamy and slightly sweet with some flower characteristics adding to the smoothness.
M/O: very nice change of pace. Overall I would have liked a little more carbonation on the mouth, but for 4 years old, an excellent beer.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine Volume II, Issue VI:
A bit of extreme brewing going on here. We are staring at a bottle of Belgian Strong Pale that has a grain bill of 25-percent rye malt (holy crap!!) and is also brewed with yarrow, which is an herb that predates hops in flavoring beer. The aroma is bursting with spicy rye, the fruity alcohol of apricot and star fruit and some bittersweet yarrow. The smoothness was granted by the beer god, amazing. Chewy medium body. Maltiness comes off a little sweet and creamy then quickly turns biscuity and spicy. The alcohol is very prevalent but not pushy, with a warming wave of black pepper and a mild tropical fruitiness. Medicinal phenols set in as well as the bittersweet yarrow balances out the maltiness and fruitiness. Yeast, residual malt, phenol and yarrow are all present in a very complex semidry finish.
Absolutely delicious, complex enough to pair with the most pungent of cheeses, yet still approachable enough to drink on its own.

Poured into a wide-mouthed snifter. Hazy blood orange with a smallish white head that quickly dissipates leaving a nice ring.
Lemongrass on the aroma, some rock candy, orange blossom honey.
Coriander and fragrant spice immediately noted. Big malt to balance the spice. Subtle lemon and orange. A lot of spice actually. Bitter on the backend, dry. Perfect carbonation.
Alcohol very well hidden.

Appearance: Like all the Allagash beers, this one looks great, with a huge authentic Belgian head sitting atop a cloudy amber color, taking its time; lots of Belgian lace, as well
Smell: Smells a bit like a European fruit liqueur with coriander and anise elements, as well; maybe the fruit was pear, maybe raspberry -it's hard to tell; I wouldn't yarrow if it was sitting on a plate before me
Taste: On the palate, the taste is more pear-like, with an apricot, anise, coriander and Ricola character developing by mid-palate; lots of alcohol flavor too (imagine what this must have been like two years ago); after the swallow, the white pepper, rye and Ricola flavor dominates through the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation; considerable warmth in the gullet
Drinkability: It is certainly interesting and unique, but I wouldn't seek it out again; glad I had the chance to try it, though

The 07 Allagash fluxus poured a deep golden color with a nice but not substantial head. Great lacing on top of he glass. It smells and tastes like a tripel with a slightly herbaceous twist. Very drinkable for 10%. Aged very well I look forward to my next botle.
