Notes / Commercial Description:
Allagash Black is a Belgian style stout brewed with 2 Row barley, torrified wheat, oats, both roasted and chocolate malt and a generous portion of dark caramelized candi sugar. The silky mouth feel is a great balance to the roasted character, coffee and dark chocolate notes expressed throughout this beer.

Pours a very dark brown/ nearly black color. A thumbnail length tan head displays average retention.
Roasty aromas are reminiscent of coffee and dark chocolate. Furthermore, there seems to be a minty, peppermint like aroma going on.
Elements of dark Belgian style ales are there; dark fruit, plum, raisin and cherry. However, there are many stout like aspects such as nutty malt flavors, espresso roast and dark chocolate. There is a strong bitterness going on that evokes lightly charred malt, grassy hops and earthy bitterness.
Smooth, creamy, and medium to full bodied. The finish is roasty, bitter and astringent.
I love Allagash, however, this one was a bit odd. Somewhere in between stout and BSDA, however, the bitterness was a bit unbalanced.

12-oz bottle dated 02/09/18 poured into a 16-oz. mug. Opaque black/brown with a short lived finger sized tan head, a cap and some lacing persist throughout the drink.
Smell features roasted malt, dark chocolate and espresso.
Taste is semi sweet at first noting malt and chocolate with a bitter roasted malt middle followed by bitter espresso and hops.
Light to medium body with medium carbonation and a dry finish. Alcohol is well hidden.
Reminds me of American Black Ale in a good way. Stout like flavors yet thiner on the body. I can see why its classified as a Belgian Strong Dark Ale.

Smooth pour with a small creamy tan head. Looks reddish brown when held to the light. Smell is pleasant with hints of coffee and chocolate. Surprising amount of carbonation but the taste is very pleasant with hints of coffee chocolate and caramel. Despite the sweet taste it finishes with a delicious sour note and coffee bean. Overall a well done offering and very nice by a campfire on a cool spring evening.

almost opaque, almost black, light cream colored head; the aroma is very mild, unremarkable; mouthfeel is smooth, moderately carbonated; the taste is rich and smooth. a good stout.

Black with a ruby tinge a few cm in when held to the light, and a little hard to see carbonation. Topped with 3 fingers of beige head.

Smells of Belgian yeasts, dark fruits, prunes, plums and coffee. A slightly charred note as well.

The taste follows the nose and is very easy on the palate, not harsh but only smooth textures and flavours. I also get red grape juice and even some wine like qualities.

Again, smooth body with moderate carbonation. Covers the ABV dangerously well.

Got this in the States, drinking it on Lake Rousseau, May 6th, 2018. Excellent brew, extremely smooth and well textured, as well as very interesting flavours.

I dont believe this is an unfiltered beer, but I am seeing a ton of sediment floating around in mine, so I am knocking a few points on the look.
