Sparkling pink-amber with a loud fizzy head that settles to a soft, spotty film but can easily be stirred up with a quick swirl. Second half of the bottle will cloud you up.

Smell is wild yet focused sparkling cherry cider mellowed by oaky, earthy, cheesy funk and a little peppery spice. With more time, the smell reminds me of walking through a wild apple orchard with fallen apples underfoot and wildflowers all around--super nostalgic and homey, yet complex.

Whoa, this is very sour at first! Cherry is quickly complemented by a spiced apple cider or apple pie-like flavor, over an excellent, sharp crisp fizz. After acclimating, I taste almond, pie crust, a little acetic oak, and then the cherry comes back in on the finish--bing and black cherry pie, finishing quite dry indeed. Then, long after the swallow, a savory, peppery oakiness blooms on the throat.

Bottled December 21, 2015 and drank March 21, 2017. Pours a bright ruby red with loads of carbonation, fizzy white head from which you can hear the carbonation popping/fizzing. Smells of cherries, oak, wine, with a little sour funk. Taste is sharply sour and bursting with a lemony acid. Oak and cherry are there still, but muted by the initial punch of sour. Finishes dry. Fun beer.

Pours a clear pink with touches of yellow around the edges. The nose is loads of funk, oak and cherry sweetness. The taste brings notes of cherries, oak and funkiness with a nicely tart finish. The mouthfeel is full bodied and not overly drying. Overall, the balance and complexities are on point here. The cherry sits more in the back ground than I expected, which is the only detractor. In the end, it's something I would never hesitate to grab again.

Drinking the latest 2016 batch on 12/31/16. Cherry pie. Biscuit. Spice. Cherries. Beautiful rose color. Carb is continual throughout the drinking experience. Flavors really pop as it warms. Almost a hint of cinnamon and definite pie crust with the tart cherries. A balanced tartness from the natural fermentation.

375ml cork and caged bottle, dated 12/21/2015. Cork comes out with a large pop. Served in a snifter glass. Pours a slightly cloudy darker reddish body with an orange hue; one finger white head with good retention, not much lacing. Smells of rich cherry skin and tannins, oak, and mild funk. Touch of lemon is in the back as well. A bit of mineral, but the dominant aroma is cherry skin. Flavour does follow; tannic with moderate cherry skin tartness and a bit of cherry flesh; back is touch of lemon and leather, a bit more oak and a mild funk to it. Mouthfeel is medium-lighter bodied, slightly yogurty, moderate acetic acidity with cherry skin and funk on the finish. A very nice cherry AWA that I really enjoyed.

Very funky on the nose with a faint cherry presence.

The taste is a mix of wet hay, barnyard, earth, and bitter grapefruit flavor that fades to tart cherry.

Overall, not at all what I expected. Definitely the funkiest of the Allagash beers.

Beer is a wonderful pink-red glow with little to no translucence. A big sniff pulls a strong scent of sharp and sour cherry. The taste is magnificent. Strong and sweet comstock cherries with outlandish funk that finishes with a strong, puckering sour that dries out the mouth and polishes out the flavor. The sour finish recedes into an oaky depth that rounds out the drinking experience. Sweet cherry to extreme funk to puckering sour, supported by barrel finish. A professionally crafted beer. Beer has strong carbonation, and the sourness creates a dry finish that dares you not to take another sip. Allagash is really flexing their muscles here. A nearly perfect American version of a Belgian specialty.

A: This beer is a pale pink with a light pink/white head that doesn't stick around. S: Cherries, Allagash funk, hay, musty basement, oak, and wine-like. T: Juicy sweet and sour cherries. A bunch of grassy, earthy notes with some vinegar tartness. M: Medium with some stinging carb. Dry on the back end. O: Probably the best or damn near close to the best cherry sour I've had. Goes toe to toe with the Belgian krieks and I think it comes out on top. Just an absolute delight
