Coolship Resurgam is brewed with Pilsner malt, raw wheat, and aged hops. The beer is cooled overnight using outside air temperature in a traditional, large shallow pan known as a coolship. During the cooling process, naturally occurring microflora from the air inoculates the beer, and in the morning, it is transferred into French oak wine barrels where the entire fermentation and aging takes place. Coolship Resurgam is a blend of this one-, two-, and three-year old spontaneously fermented beer. The finished beer has aromas of apricot, lemon zest, and candied fruit. Notes of tropical fruit and flavors of funk lead to a clean, tart, and dry finish.

Coolship Resurgam is a blend of both old and young unfruited spontaneous beer. The name comes from the motto of our fair city, Portland, Me. It means "I shall rise again". Coolship Resurgam won a Silver medal at the 2010 GABF.

The Pretentious Glass Company Crispy Boi tulip glass is hosting this (SRM 5) burnished gold beer. Once the chill haze passes, it becomes gem clear. 1.5 inches of rocky, white head is short lived, leaving no lacing.

Dusty grains give way to water cracker, while oak leads to light pepper and celery. Lemon comes out with light warmth in this acidic approximation of white wine.

The lips have a light pucker as this one is more tart than sour. There is a moderate level of bitter/sweetness in balance with one another. Apricots and green apples intermingle with cilantro and lime. Acidity builds with warmth and carries into a strong, dry finish.

Stiff nylon texture works with the light body and modest alcohol. Carbonation is spritzy.

Gueuze makes for a pleasant summer beer and this one is no exception. That said, I think it would probably be better in the crisp autumn air with the smell of falling leaves.

Bottled 11/13/18

I’ve had quite a few beers from the Allagash Coolship series, but this is somehow the first time I’m trying the most popular beer from the series. That being said, I’ve had this bottle in my cellar for well over a year so that’s on me. Let’s pop it open and find out what it’s all about

Pours a cloudy orange gold with a finger of soapy white head that quickly fades to a thin ring and leaves minimal lacing

The nose is funky for sure, but it’s subdued in its approach. I’m picking up on aromas of lemon juice, apple skin, buttery oak, tannic white wine, apricot, white pepper, earthy wheat, and peach pit

It’s similarly gentle in taste but it’s still vibrant. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting lemon zest, dried apricot, pear skin, bready malt, wildflower honey, white pepper, lime zest, and dry oak. The swallow brings notes of lemon zest, earthy wheat, dry oak, stone, peach pit, apple skin, and white pepper

A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a crisp beer. Finishes mostly dry and nicely balanced

It’s not my favorite from the series but it’s very good

Cloudy bruised yellow with a half finger of white, fast dissipating head. The smell is of sour lambic notes, fermenting lemons, dusty cellar, oak and aged wood.

The taste is bone dry sour with hints of cellared oak, raw lemon juice, and fermented funk so common to the lambic style.

Medium, highly acidic, dry body with moderate to highly foamy carbonation.

Excellent wild ale. Feels like I'm in Belgium rather than Maggie Valley, NC. I got this at Wholefoods in Asheville today, Aug 8th, 2023.

(375 ml bottle, date bottled: Nov. 7, 2018; purchased single at $17 in Allagash take-out shop two days ago... decanted into 10 oz Allagash chalice, also purchased that day, 2-for-1 deal!)

L: cloudy, sediment-speckled, apricot-amber hues liquid; explosive foam stand, building high, crumbling slow... wild as it gets, I suppose...

S: just the cork: tart berry, lemon peel, acv, mum concentrate; all incredibly vibrant (maybe the most invigoratingly potent cork I've ever huffed)... in the glass: grapefruit, canteloupe, peach yogurt... bit of acetone and burnt ends of pancake later, but to no detriment to its overall techincolor magnficence

T: on the palate: the peach custardy yogurt doesn't stop, just expands, unfolds, and lengthens in expression... tart, bitter citrus is the lasting aftertaste; very vaguely peppery dry and zesty green herbaceous along the perimeters... ever so slightly alba vinous and earthy acidic in the near background

F: pungent, pumping, popping all over... lip smacky and stealthfully slick... effervescent, beautifully bracing with a blanket buoyancy...

O: quite simply the best oude-gueze-y from the NE, you tell me!... this is what I crave... damn, I wish I'd known, because I would've grabbed a couple more bottles: ISO in PHL metro (2119)

375ml bottle. Label has 'Packaged: November 2021' for bottling date. Corked and caged.
Cloudy, pale gold colored body. Very vigorous rising bubble show. One finger of frothy, small bubble head. No lacing.
Aroma of leather, tobacco, horse blanket and barnyard funk. Apricot fruit with a little lemon. Has a touch of oak barrel.
Taste of spontaneous funk, and it is quite tart. Quite a bit of lemon (and other citrus such as pineapple and sour orange), with some apricot. Has an oak tannin note at the end. Brisk in the aftertaste.
LIvely mouth feel. Crisp and dry finish. Big carbonation.
Well blended gueuze with citrus, stone fruit, and oak tannin flavors. More subtle funk characteristics in the nose than in the taste
